i would like to reload shotgun sabots i have deer shotgun with a scope that i have really started to make work really sweet and i would like to shoot it more and sabots are way too expensive to blow a pile through a gun in an afternoon.
has anyone ever done it? iam new to reloading period and any help would be appreciated.

Do you want to get into casting?
Lyman makes a Sabot mold... haven't had the chance to try it!

But i've shot hundreds of Lee Foster slugs and round balls :D

Mike.

i don't think casting is where i'll go sabots for my muzzleloader are cheap so any info on the reloading procedure would be really helpful

Hi quietkid,

I used Lyman slugs from Cannon's Custom Cast Bullets. You can find the load data in the Lyman Shot Shell Reloading Manual. It uses Blue Dot powder, Winchester primers and regular Winchester. Accuracy was decent at least at 50 yds. I need to do some more testing later this year.

My buddy and I load Lee and Lyman slugs as well as .690 round balls in standard shot wads.
All work great so we bought all the molds and are casting them ourselves.
When we started it was for fun now it is very serious and we are trying different powders, wads, hulls and primers and shotguns.
Quietkid PM me.

I have loaded over 1000 slug loads with the lyman 12g sabot slug, cast of quenched wheel weights. I compared factory slug loads, (federal) , a few Brennekes, and my loads. THE Brennekes penetrated twice as far as the federal slug loads, the Lyman's penetrated over twice as far as the Brennekes. This was in Dry phone books.

We use water jugs and 20L pails of water. Still looking for some of the slugs.
2 20L pails of water end to end, exploded both pails and no slug to be found.
Buckbrush, if you find a wet Lyman slug over there in AL, it just may be one of ours.

does anyone know if you can use a progressive reloader to build sabots or only a single stage my research and your help has gotten me this far. thanks everybody

For sure your shot drop will not work, the slugs are inserted into the wad once it is seated in the case.

I started loading slugs and buckshot with a Lee loadall. Like all lee stuff it is cheap and works-sort of. I now use a P+W 375, a much better machine.

mt knowledge of reoading is very limited buckbrush can you explain the process to me step by step for sabots and i guess from your response that a single stage loader is what you would use?

just bought a lee load all 2 on ebay fairly cheap any recipes for sabots passed on would be greatly appreciated.this is just like christmas but fun

i am excited to get set up i got some really good ideas from the photo gallery pics of peoples gun rooms and work areas i am going to have to get a second job if i am going to catch up. great stuff to show your wife if she gets on your back though,"honey look at what those guys are doin!"

For loading sabot slugs ,all the loading steps are the same except for inserting the slug in the wad that has been seated in the case. The slug wont go thru the shot hopper, it must be manually inserted. All other steps are the same.

I am not familiar with all the different progressive shotshell loaders to say which ones will allow the slug to be put in by hand. I have loaded slug loads on a lee loadall, a P+W 375, and a couple of Hollywood turret presses. I hope this helps.

I probably dated her sister in a past life
I am happy to be one of the few lucky guys with a pro-gun-shooter-girlfriend... Last time we were at the range trying out a new rifle her reaction was <Ho! Nice... can I get one of them too>... Life is good to me :D

Now back to the reloading of slugs... Over the last few months I've been playing around with cast lead round ball (0.690"). They seems to be just as accurate as the slugs, but they carry a little more weight. 485gr vs 425gr for the Lee Slugs. At some point in time, I'd like to get Lyman "pellet" shaped slug mold...

Safe shooting,
Mike.

it's a pro gun household i live in but priorities wise it's a second to alot of things like food and other nonsense like that
i am wondering if you can load sabots like the ones i use in my muzzleloader into a shotshell my concern is the crimp is there a special crimp?
