so decided to upgrade from pump to semi auto, set out the following standards for myself (ones which i didn't think were to picky or out to lunch: at least 3" chamber, average midlength barrel (anywhere 20-24 inches) got sick of lugging these long 28 inchers through cat tails and mud, when they add virtually no benifit, and no more than around the $1000 mark within reason.

you'd think i was looking for the wholly grail.

well first i went to M.G.O in Lloyd and on numerous recommendations bought a stoeger, got the 3500 because of the 3.5" chamber, and while looking at it in the store the guy, looking through his computer told me he could and would get me in a 24" to replace the cumbersome monstrosity on it, and a mag extension (for clay) ...After almost 2 weeks of constantly calling them it still has yet to happen, and I learn that Stoeger is a bit of a #### show business wise, and is not actually manufacturing items that they have listed on their website.

MGO has graciously offered to let me return the shotty, but the problem is i cant find one to replace it! hunting and looking and phoning, is eating up my days off and with no luck whatsoever. everyone seems to think that if your not popping out of a blind shooting geese a mile away with a 28", u want a defence or "tactical" gun with a 18.5 shorty. (which actually I've been reading that properly choked is virtually just as good as longer, so i might just give up and go with a shorty)

ugh. just, ugh.

somebody please help; any recommendation, advice, contact, or knowledge is apreciated. I'm even contemplating seeing if a gunsmith can cut it down and re-thread for the chokes ha.

they have a 24" listed on their website for both models.
and ya, im willing to go a bit over a g, just dont want to pay beneli prices

I think the firearms gods hear you use the word "Shotty", and are punishing you for it by not delivering unto you the very shotgun you want.

Through frustration thou shalt learn to not use the unholy word, lest ye be denied forevermore a 24" barreled shotgun.

Good luck on your search. :)

Oh how I have been there... And it all started because I sold my 26 inch barreled Baikal MP153 to a buddy that I got into hunting... INSTANT REGRET!!!

Anyhow... I started looking around for another Baikal MP153 with either a 26 or 24 inch barrel with NO LUCK! BaikalCanada is only bringing in the 28 inch barreled version...

Anyhow... I took to the intraweb & found that The Buffalo Gun Center in New York could get me the 26 or 24 inch barreled synthetic version I wanted... So, I ordered TWO! And just sold one on the EE here & I'm keeping the other.

And just to compare, my 24 inch barreled MP153 is the EXACT same length as my 28 inch barreled Savage Milano Over/Under... So I totally understand where your coming from when you say your looking for something a little more compact but not 18.5 inches either!

In short, find what you want & buy it! And if you find what you want Stateside, the whole exporting thing is not too bad, just costs a bit of $$$, but you do get what you want & that's what matters isn't it!

Cheers
Jay

Haha. gun gods forgive me, for I have sinned, give us our daily dead so that wussy regular god's creatures' flesh may be consumed with garlic bbq sauce.

hmm, wierd to me that it would suck so bad, sharing beneli trates, but i guess manufacturing can make the difference.

beretta xtrema are good also.
wont make too big of a deal with barrel length but wont use 18.5. longer tend to be stable Aiming at the game for me. but make sure to get changable choke that can handle steel shots. choke is all it matters and to see how the shotgun fits ya!
good luck on finding a shotty!

What the hell is a "shotty"? You mean a shotgun, right?
What kind of clays do you shoot where you need more than two shots? I shoot sporting and skeet with my SxS's just fine.

The difference between 26" and 28" barrels isnt enough to get your knickers in a knot. If you want overall compactness get a twin barrel.

Found a smith that for a cheap price will nock it down to whatever length i want and re thread for chokes, i think im just going to go that route. I've decided I really like my 3500, and found out it made NRA's shotgun of the year which was nice to find out.

Totaly unrelated, and just for curiosity's sake, but there is no 18.5 minimum length on shot gun barrels is there?

Yes there is an 18.5 inch minimum on Semi-Auto and 18" on Pump or Over/Under, SxS.

I shoot mostly Trap , HCP, doubles but with skeet and sporting clays we sometimes swich patterns and stations. for eg, rather than having high, low then double, we will load 4 and go double follow up with another. It sure is fun sometimes.
But my main for skeet and sporting is O/U Beretta SV10 sporting. and trap is custom beretta with al391 action.

Correct, ON THE SEMI AUTO... 18.5 & longer for Non-Restricted status... Shorter than that & it's Restricted.

INCORRECT on the pump, over/under, sxs... The barrel length needs to be a 'factory' length... Hence the legal 12.5 inch barreled Dominion Grizzly Arms (870 pump clone) that I have. And, the legal 8.5 inch Grizzly's that are also Non-Restricted!

In BOTH cases, OAL must be equal OR greater than 26 inches.

Wrong, if it is a cut down barrel like he is talking about them minimum is 18". For a barrel that is manufactured shorter (NOT CUT) it is legal to have shorter than 18".

Glad you got it sorted out. Cutting the barrel to your liking is your best route.

Just a friendly reminder for future reference there is no such thing as "Shotty", "Remys", "Winys", just to name a few of this sites popular bastardizations of proper english gun language.
