Hey guys

I've been trying to find the official name of the type of "pistol style grip" that I have on my friend's cousin's neighbour's shotgun and I've managed to get a good history lesson about grip types

This is the tl:dr website version haha

https://www.westleyrichards.com/theexplora/the-stock-grip-options-for-shotguns/

Also I found a review of some more modern types

https://www.luckygunner.com/lounge/defensive-shotgun-stock-comparison/

But I'm wondering if anyone knows what the official name of the "pistol grip style" grip is that looks like...well...kinda like an eggplant emoji haha ew

I can't post pics because I'm not sure how to link stuff correctly, but I've always called it a billy club handle since I got one. But I read somewhere that said gooseneck the one time so that got me wondering.

What do you guys call it and is there an "official" term for that type of grip?

At one time, if I understand you correctly, these were sometimes referred to as a ‘bag’ type of grip. Never popular but used a little in some European and middle eastern countries.

I really can't tell what shape you're trying to describe, sorry. A picture is worth a thousand words!

I'm guessing you don't mean the military style pistol grip (typically using interchangeable AR-15 type grips). I'm only familiar with straight, pistol, and Prince of Wales grips on shotguns.

Well I guess you got us, everybody responding was trying to imagine a grip on a stock, not just a bobbed grip. Call it whatever you want, I’d sure like to see somebody use that for wingshooting.

Thanks Bryben

And ya, sorry my description sucked so bad guys haha

I was trying to find the name of the grip and then went down a rabbit hole if stock types and history and stuff haha

So does anyone know.if there is an "official name" for this type of grip?

It's like a prince of whales minus the stock?

Its called a raptor grip. Some call it a shochwave grip. A version of the birds head grip. Generally held low and fired from hip level or slightly above. I do occasionally shoot skeet with a canuck regulator with a wooden birds head grip as well as the odd sxs with the barrels chopped to 19" and the stock cutoff behind the pistol grip. I shoot at eye level holding the gun out front. While i havent shot a perfect round yet with the canuck regulator ive shot alot of 23s and a few 24s

Good practice makes for better shooting and they arent that hard to learn

Awesome. Thanks guys!

Ya it's definitely not a skeetgun, but it's still super fun to shoot

I my friend's cousin's neighbour put a green dot laser on the front to make it easier to aim haha

This is the grip in question. Im posting it for the op

Now I see the eggplant...

I'm not aware of a generic name for it, but Shockwave Technologies currently sell a product like this that they call a Raptor grip.

It was the original sawed-off shotgun grip profile - It's what you are left with when you cut the wide part off of a traditional full length shotgun stock.
