Shotgun weaponlight

My Olight Balder pro arrived today. Pretty cool little unit. I like the laser and it’s ridiculously bright. Seems to be well made, especially for the price. We’ll see how it holds up to the recoil of a 12ga. But for $150 it was an easy gamble to make.
Still waiting for the GG&G light mount to arrive. But I’m pretty sure it’s not going to stick out past the barrel.

I've had mine for years. I't's been mounted and used on several of my firearms, shotguns included. The only other thing I can say is mine has always been mounted on a solid piece of picatinny rail. The GG&G is an "L" bracket. While I generally like GG&G stuff, I'd steer away from this set up in favour of a mag tube/ barrel clamp that incorporates a pic rail. I'll be accused of shilling, but I can't say enough good things about S&J's barrel clamp. ROCK SOLID.

Currently the light is on a 1301 and it does extend or is just flush with the muzzle. Powder was starting to collect on it, so I bought some extended choke tubes, and that little 1/2 barrel extension makes all the difference. No shadow, no powder burns.
 
The light mount arrived today. After installing it I see why Painkillers prefers the mag tube/barrel clamp. The GG&G sticks out to the side pretty far. But that wasn’t really an option cause there just isn’t enough realestate for that setup on the 14” Supernova.
That said, the light is easy to turn on and off without adjusting my grip on the pump. But I don’t think I’ll be able to zero the laser.

But at least it doesn’t stick out past the barrel, so I’m happy about that.

I’m still waiting for a Mesa shell carrier and +1 mag extension to arrive. After than I should be done accessorizing.

Cool, so it looks like the GG&G can be installed with the rail on either side despite the ball detent? The light does seem offset kinda far, but that can’t be helped unless you were to use something like a SureFire scout light pro and angle it inward.

Other accessories worth considering are heatshield (can modify a Slade Street Tactical one as they’re pretty universal) and upgraded follower (both GG&G or S&J make some, make sure to use the correct model for Nova/SN because you can easily get malfunctions if they’re not the right length). Also if you’re a lefty you can reverse the safety, apparently the Benelli oversize safety also fits but I haven’t tried that

I just assumed that because the laser is pretty far off to the right of the bore centreline.
Would you just zero it so the poi is left to the laser, the same distance the emitter is from the bore centreline?

I just installed it according to the instructions. I ordered a right hand rail and it said the QD sling mount goes to the opposite side of the ejection port.
I did try it flipping it just to see if it goes both ways. The ball detent definitely holds the barrel nut in place better the way they tell you to install it.
I have a S&J +1 extension on order, and I believe it comes with a new follower.

Key is to remember your offset when you are running a parallel zero, whether your laser is on the side or the bottom.


Since mine is mounted on the bottom I have about a 3 inch center to center offset, so when I aim the laser down range at center mass the round will impact 3 inches higher.

The real concern with recoil and your weapon light is the battery.

A protected cell 18650 will have small circuit boards in it to protect from overcharging/over discharging/short-circuiting, etc.

Recoil damages the circuit boards and causes battery failure.

Use an unprotected battery.

All of the better lights can handle recoil.

I used to buy Custom Lites DIMs to fit P60 format lights and NONE of them failed. I built and sold quite a few.

Almost 15 years later and ALL of them are working.

The Olight Baldr Pro R does not use an 18650 battery. It is powered by a built-in 3.6V 1000mAh lithium-polymer battery.

So far mine has 1000 9 mm rounds on it & now lives on a shotgun with 75 rounds of slug & buck, no issues this far.

Understood, I remember seeing pictures on the GG&G website with the rail on the “left” side (pointing toward the barrel end) but that was on the 18”. Glad it worked out and doesn’t interfere with the forend operation.

When your S&J +1 arrives, check to see if it has the new type 6 follower (which looks more like the original Benelli in terms of length). The +1 used to come with the more universal type 3, which can work in most low stress situations, but I found you can get a malfunction / failure because it isn’t as long, and rounds can get stuck between the tube and receiver. I ended up getting some GG&G followers at the time, but recently got some type 6 since S&J made a specific model. Still need to install it, but will be a good Canada Day project.

Good to know. I do believe it comes with the type 3 follower. At least that’s what they say it comes with.
I’ll make a post once it arrives either way.
I’ll probably reinstall the Benelli follower if the type 3 is unreliable, and maybe I’ll order a GG&G eventually
 
F**king Amazon...my Baldr was supposedly "delayed to ship"...then f**k you!? We won't sell one for less than $250.00!? Bastards! :mad:.

For lights mounted close to the muzzle, I always put a thin layer of vaseline on the lens. It collects all the gunk and carbon discharged from the barrel. Makes it really easy to clean and keeps your light bright for longer. Just wipe it off after shooting and reapply. I have lights that have seen thousands of rounds and the lens is still as clear as the day it was installed.
