Shotgun with least recoil!

Are knox stock's better than limbsavers?

Knoxx does make a standard style stock called the comp stock as well as the pistol grip style...
The Knoxx Spec ops comes with a limbsaver pad not sure about the comp stock..

Anybody out there got some actual hands-on time with the Berretta Semi's, or the Bennelli's?

Judging from the secondhand view (watching rapid shooting and trick shooting demonstrations videos) the recoil is quite managed there.

2 3/4 Dram equivalent loads, would be a place to start though. Not much point dumping the gun he has, unless he's finding that the recoil on the reduced loads is too much to handle.

A 1 oz or 7/8 oz load going out at 1100m or so FPS is going to feel about the same whether from a 12 or 20 gauge, while a 12 gauge gun is going to have some more mass to it to absorb it.

Low recoil, low noise ammo. Several types available.
Winchester Low Recoil, Low Noise works in a breaking gun or pump but is not recommended by the manufacturer in a semi-auto.

Lots with the Beretta (I own one) and a reasonable amount with the Benelli. If recoil reduction is the objective then the Beretta is the best choice. It has a gas operated action which is softer shooting than the recoil operation of the Benelli.

Brother in law has a Beretta 1201F its the exact same recoil operate system (Inertia with rotary bolt) as the Benelli with the recoil spring in the buttstock not like the Stoeger around the magazine tube and this thing kicks hard.

I am not a wimpy shooter as I own rifles in 300WM and 375 H&H but the recoild level when firing 3" on his light weight Beretta seems like firing 3.5" from my buddy's Browning gas operate gold.

Keep in mind than most gas operate give you a milder recoil and being a little heavier than Inertia operate.

I thing there is always a trade of when talking between the gun's weight and recoil, you just simply can't have both.;)

What does "low noise" in a 12ga sound like?

The Winchester Winlite Low Recoil Target Load (#WL12FL8) load is actually quite a bit quieter than a standard load as they are subsonic (980 fps). They are a bit odd sounding - every shot sounds like a "blooper". They will break targets, but I don't think I'd take them hunting unless the shots were really close up.

The best solution to recoil is: your choice of gas operated semi-auto, with a good soft butt pad. If your gun of choice will run with a 1 oz or 7/8 oz load even better. If that combo is too much it's time to break out the .410!
