tried an old shotgun out awhile ago, and found that loading a shell in the right barrel causes it to not properly lock, although I can push the lever to the center to close the action properly, or just basicaly just forcing the barrels closed. i mean it seems to work, but its just kinda sketchy that it won't close normally.

What shotgun and what length of shells are you using?
its some Belgian double barrel with external hammers. Its proofed for 2 3/4 but i was using 2.5"

Have you tried different brands of ammo? Maybe the brass on the shells is a bit thicker on the stuff you are using?
Extractors i presume?
Could be some crud stopping it from closing with one on the right barrel.
Chamber is okay when you take a peek?
Maybe the firing pin is putting pressure on the case as well.
With the hammer on half #### dies the firing pin move easily?
