Has anyone had success shooting coyotes with the shotgun? Id like to get a Carlson Dead Coyote choke tube for my Win SX3 and was wondering if there are people in Canada that have any experience with that choke tube and shot sizes and patterns?:shotgun:

in our area of south western Ontario coyotes are run with dogs and a mix of mostly rifles and a few shotguns . they are used on the close shots or in brush. as for shot sizes every shotgun has its own preference for a given choke and it is up to you to find the diet it likes . i would use the chokes that you have for the gun and try various buckshot loads till you come up with one that throws a decent pattern . if that does not work buy the dead coyote choke but i would not count on it being a magic wand .slugs are another option doubling or tripling the distance you can take them down .

I have Carlson Dead Coyote for my 870 and with 3" 000 it patterns effectively out to about 50 yards, but the 20 to 30 yard range is the sweet spot for a full 24" spread.

Great success with 3.5" of #4buck through a Beretta modified choke. Rolls 'em right over.
Does anything kick worse than that load? Wow! We ran some test loads loads of that stuff through a Benelli Super Eagle II, and my shoulder still hurts...and that was a month ago.
Shotgunning coyotes is best done at close ranges under 45 yds...2 3/4 " 4 buck is about perfect.
Good luck!

I tried 000 and 00 out of the 10ga and 12ga and seem to always go back to No.4 buck with the choke that patterns best for the gun I am using in the 10ga gold for example it is a IM and the 12 likes a lead full.
You have to pattern your gun and find what combo works best. I can smoke them at 40 yards no problem at all.

i get a pattern of 24 inches at a twenty five yard distance using oo buck out of a ten guage Ithaca roadblocker 21 inch cylinder bore 18 pellets . i have not used it on coyotes but i am confident it would be good out to30 yards as i would expect to have a30 inch circle at that distance .i find ten guage hard to come by but have some heavy waterfowl loads that i want to pattern .i am going to try hand loading to get around that obstacle . i believe remington sells a reduced recoil load of buckshot in twelve guage meant for police work that throws a good pattern judging from what i have read on the internet . it might be worth looking into.
