Shotguns and coyotes

Hevi shot makes the dead Coyote shot in hopped up BB's and T shot. There are chokes out there as well that are made for this shot type too. Hevi shot makes one and Carlson's also has a dead coyote tube. Most of these setups are a 60 yard system. As stated pattern the shotgun and see what works best, because shotguns do not all shoot the shot the same...

Got 2 a couple year ago, when they ventured near the henhouse, got them from the porch of the house using my M4 and 2.75 Win in #2 lead shot, one and 1/8 ounce, did empty my M4 on them running, they both died, the second one got hit at 50-55 yards (this is with a full choke), a lead #2 pack serious punch and the possibility of unloding 7 shots in one second or two is serious medecine, i know for a fact that le Baron carry that ammo at 56.00 for 250 shells, bought a case before leaving for overseas for those unanounced visit... IMHO, min. Pellet size of bbb. Heavi-shot makes a good 3" bbb waterfowl load that works. 3" federal premium #4 buck is what I'm using this year. Both pattern very well out of a modified accu-choke in my weatherby.

Has anyone tried that "dead coyote" stuff compared to #4 buck? Personally I can't see $5/round vs. $1.50 being worth any difference.

Yep and the recoil is much more with died coyote. The wad system is to keep the shot together longer too...

I just ordered some of this from my local shop. $17 for box of 10rnd so a LOT cheaper than Dead Coyote.... And like I said before, due to NB stupidness we can't carry buckshot in varmint season so BB is the best we can use in a shotgun.

A #2 lead out of a 2.75, have enough knock down power up to 55 yards on coyotes, with 1 and 1/8 ounces there is 100 # 2 in one shell, it have the same pattern density than 1 and 7/8 ounces of lead BB, i saw them fold like an paper towel when hit at 50 yards +.... JP.

Hey look at that, our very own Brobee did one of this excellent test videos with this exact ammo.

I have a long range review of this same shell in the editing process right now (gel test at 5 yards, 20 yards, and 40 yards)...hope to get it finished and posted this weekend.

My recommendation is to go bigger...the hornady #4 buck load is better.

Cheers,

Brobee

I use to hunt coyotes a fair bit with a Savage 24 in .222 over 20 ga. I had BBs in the shotgun barrel but never killed a coyote outright with the shotgun. The .222 worked well though. I have since located some SSG buckshot loads for the 20 ga. and will use it on a coyote to see how it works.

I have a Savage 24 I bought mainly for coyotes, (.223/12ga.) and I also load the shot barrel with BB, but no coyote has yet presented itself within shotgun range while I was carrying that gun.

I always wanted a combination gun, I figured it be great yote gun in the woods, but most of what I read mentions how its hard to have both barrels anywhere near the same POI, hows yours shoot?

Bought a Valmet 222 / 12 ga combo from Tradeex last winter. Interesting combo in that you can adjust the barrels to regulate to same point of impact. Fooled around with ssg's and rifle and got pretty close - need to get it back out before start wolf hunting and finish dialing in.

They had a couple more on their site last time i checked
