Need information to determine if a CAS using a standard set up is "legal" on a range approved for rifles, handguns and shotguns (slugs only).
Where does it say the CFO can forbid a club from using the berm as a backstop to see a shotgun pattern, using a fixed, designated target, and shooting in a strictly horizontal plane, as described in the CFC range manual.
How do other clubs that have CAS in New Brunswick (and other provinces) deal with this new solution for which there is no problem.
Would appreciate your information, references or advice.

Sounds like your CFO is looking for another way to harass you folks...
It should be irrelevant. All the CFC manual on ranges is about carry distance of the ammunition. If the direction the firearm is fired is contained within the range safety template via either berm, baffles or managed property, the firearm shouldn't be an issue. Shotguns are the easiest. Shot and slugs don't go anywhere near the distance of handgun or rifle rounds.

it shouldn't be... but is.. (See Barrie Gun Club)

in ontario there is a certificate you get from the CFO which lists the allowed disiplines of shooting, and what type of firearm is allowed..

that however won't answer your side berm vs backstop issue. The CFO can stop it based on thier opinion that they can, based on the power that they have to regulate ranges. It's not a technical issue, it's an asshat in a uniform issue.
