I just started to reload shot shells and i have been using new unfired shells and about 1/2 have of them the crimp is coming undone after the shell sits for a day.Is this normal or am i doing something wrong?

Thanks C

Crimps coming out isn't normal but without knowing more details it's hard to say what the solution might be. What components are you loading, what recipe and what reloader are you using?

If all is well with your reloader(adjusted properly and working properly), the reason for this is components are not a good fit in hull, taking up too much room, ie: too much shot, wad not right for amount of shot, etc. Go back to start, do not pass go.

This is normal.

New hulls are a bear to crimp. You need a very sharp crimp starter and they aren' available for the Lee.

BPI used to sell one for the Mec.

Load All

I used to have one. The loader is not adjustable at all, so the secret is to adjust the load itself. Your load sounds a touch too tall. Check the load manuals for one using your hull/powder/shot combo with a different wad, perhaps it will be a better fit. Or, keep the shot/hull/wad combo and look for a load with a less bulky powder, so the load column is a little shorter. When finished, your crimped hull should have a small rim standing up, a half mm or so is all it needs. That will stay closed as long as you want.

Hi

Just put less pellets in the shell, until you get the ones that will keep the crimp permanently. It may take you a few days, because you'd have to wait and see. But once you find what you want, stick to that. On your second reloading you might need to add pellets, now that the crimp has been already formed.

Good Luck
