Just rolled into a new competition shotgun, really looking for some personal expertise on the whole 'empty tube' fiasco.

2ups, quads or caddies?
For the price and difficulty of getting these holders i'm not to keen on experimenting.

Oh! It'd be a beretta 1301 comp

Go quad....but it aint as easy as they make it look and you sure can screw things up real fast if you blow it.
Load two, fairly easy to master and tried and true.
I recently went through this adventure myself and ended up with the gunar solutions caddies which are very well made and versatile, but......I am looking to add a dedicated quad set up, DAA just announced its new platform, pinwheels are very popular and Invictus also has a growing reputation. A point to consider is that you can only quad load once with a semi, meaning you can't legally stuff 8 rounds in the tube. So my plan is to ultimately have two quads, and two caddies for a total of 24 rounds + whatever is allowed in the gun to start with (5+1 for sake of argument), a match saver and that will cover most stages. Reload pattern is quad, then a load two for a six round top up. Advantage of having a caddy is you can pull one or two as needed. This is still a work in progress so it is worth exactly what you paid.

Makes sense having some versatility to loading 2/3/4 on demand, who knows what crazy stages will be thought of that will keep you on an uneven loading pattern

Recently I am using the Invictus 10D- its a dedicated for twin loading, My first caddy was also an Invictus model 2.8 very compact for either quad or twin, .but my hands are just a little bit clumsy, so I have the tendency to disturb the next row shells doing twins, and I cant do quads, its just not for me. Just ordered some Safariland 086, this the newest in market right now, looks very secure and promising, looking from the design, you can do twins or quads with this caddy.

Just bought an invictus 12 quad, I have been practicing deuces and it works well for me, can't do quads.

I'm pretty new to this, but I purchased a few California Competition Works quad loaders and a ghost shell caddy. The CCW quads are pretty nice for $25usd each, they retain well and you can pull 1-4 at a time. I'm only pulling 2 so far and they come out no problem!

Go with Quads, you can easily remove two shells from the caddie and once you are comfortable then start pulling four shells. I just started quads 3 weeks ago, I'm no where near as the pros with a 2.5 second par time for quads... I own safariland, taccom and Invictus Practical shell holders. All are great and reliable.
I must say Kevin from Invictus has the best customer service ever.

My hands aren't big enough to hold quads. Loading two is fairly easy to become proficient at. I have the Invictus. Nice balance between rigidity and ability to strip shells off of.

I wanna know where all of the guys that went from loading Twins to Quads. I wanna buy your old rigs :) no one ever sells this stuff used and its few and far between to find in canada. Any recommendations where to look? I know CTC has Invictus. I love the L26 AP customs but they are hard to find now since being out of business

I have a AP QL8 for loading deuces or quads. I can't load quads yet and am not that sure I will ever be that competitive! It's a nice rig but cost a small fortune. For a reasonable price I would look at Ghost and they are available in Canada.

Whew. Not inexpensive, but look to be good quality. Plus, good to see a CDN dealer stock these.

Out of curiosity, where do you guys mount these on your kit?

I used to use AP L26 but got rid of them after 1 season. Those metal fingers are too unreliable and kept dropping shells. I bought the Invictus 6x24 vest for loading doubles.

Not sure how good they are or if they work for dueces, but take a look at the Ghost ones sold by Double Alpha. Reasonable price. Why is anything shooting related so ridiculously expensive?

Just did some port work to my hatsan escort pump to make dropping deuces and quads easier. And did it ever. I'm fumbling too much trying to quad right now, so I just load 2. I'm pretty new and haven't shot a match yet, but I've been practicing the load 2 for about 2 weeks now, and am just barely under 6 seconds

What are your times like and experience levels? I'd like to know how I'm doing in comparison, and how much more to go to be competitive.

Thanks

Something like this will ensure you are competitive.

All these guns have the loading port enlarged and polished? Also the mag spring seems so light. I know my 870 would slice your hand wide open loading so fast.
