OP why don’t you show us the hulls you are using possibly cut one in half so we can see what it is.

Just use grains for powder and a given charge of shot whether it be in ounces or grams. Grains is more accurate for powder in my mind and no reason to change that. But what do I know I’m in the part of southern Ontario that gets its news from Detroit so the weather is in fahrenheit and I also mostly use the imperial system for measurements.
