Hello all. I am a longtime (15+years) metallic cartridge handloader. I've now decided to start reloading shotshells too.

I'm planning on purchasing a MEC single stage press.

My question here: Where does one purchase shotshell components in Alberta? Was at Wholesale today and was told that they don't carry these components any more. Ditto TSE and CSC.

I would be grateful for some direction because a handloader without components is a guy who has to spend time with his wife...

What are you planning to load?
12/20ga target loads are not worth it, exception is special loads like 3/4 oz or even 24 gram in 12 Ga. 410/28 you can save pretty good. Slugs and buckshot you can save as well.
Don't buy a press new, there are plenty of used ones out there. Check the EE
The last wads I got from Hummasons near Toronto, they ship. You are lucky in one sense that you are close to the only Canadian Ballistic Products Inc. (BPI) dealer Will Bilozir. BPI has all kinds of components. Be warned some love him and some not so much :)
Before you go any further make sure you can find a source for all the components especially the lead. Shipping is out of the question for lead if you desire to save $$

Bilizor will have what you need. I would probably suggest talking to Silver Willows as well. I think Allan Day used to sell components and still might. You will find general opinion would be that Allan will be easier to deal with.

Yes from my experiences, saying that Allen is easier to deal with is a huge understatement. Rusty Wood also handles some BPI products, and Prophet River can supply Fiocchi primers and other components. Personally, I only load 28 gauge shotshells, as there isn't enough savings to bother with 12 or 20 gauge, unless you want some type of specialty shotshells.

Thank you for this good advice. I now have some options, including local ones, which I will explore.

Again, much obliged for your help.

Allan Day is your best bet in Alberta. His prices are competitive and usually has stock. I get all my 28 ga. and .410 reloading supplies from him.
