OK, despite a great many years experience loading pistol and rifle, i confess to being a complete novice about reloading for shotgun.

My limited understanding is that to get a decent quality reload, you need to have a consistant pressure on the wad and a flat surface for the crimp to bear on.

With that in mind, what's the largest shot size you can load at home that will give you consistant results? I'd love to find that you can produce a decent reduced velocity 00 buck load without having to place each pellet in by hand and buffer the volume, but I suspect it ain't going to happen.

You dont need buffering, it reduces deformation and therefore controls spread to a degree, but you WILL need to place ~9 00buck by hand. That aint so bad is it?

just use a slug that way you dont have to worry about shot pattern ;) if you get into the buck shot or oo SSG you will have to load them by hand

OK, so after a very inciteful phone call with Repete, I may have to change my plan. I have access to a friends PW progressive shotshell press. I'm trying to pick up a few cases of reduced recoil buckshot from a friend, and in the mean time I'm I think I'd like to see about working up a decent load.

My plan is to get a few cases of Win AA target loads, then reload the cases with a light load. My idea is 1-1-1/8 oz of BB's and about a 2 3/4 dramEQ charge. Not quite the same as the 00 buckshot, but at least it can be loaded on a progressive press.

Anyone see a flaw in this??
