Why are these words despised by so many?

Clip is used incorrectly so often by the media, that it's embarasing.

The ammunition feeding device that includes a spring, follower is correctly called a magazine. A clip is only a ammuntion holder, such as the 5 round clips used for the Mauser 98, Springfield 03, and the Lee Enfield.

The two terms are not interchangeable, except to an ignorant media.
