Should a bolt...

Hi everyone,

Quick question...when you close the bolt on your rifle, should there be any play between the bolt handle and the bolt itself? It appears that the bolt itself is firmly in place, but I'm able to wiggle the bolt handle forward and back.

Hmm, all the boltguns I've seen had snug bolt handles when the bolt is closed.

Just checked ,the bolts in my Remington and Savage wiggle uncocked but don't when cocked.
My Zastava Mauser dosent move at all.
No play between bolt and handle on any.

The bolt should be solid when closed and cocked.

CZ 527 bolts have a handle that is detachable from the body as part of the dis-assembly process. Unlike other actions that have a handle that is integral, welded, or soldered to the bolt body, it is possible for the handle to have a small amount of play with no impact on function.

Not to say I doubt you, but are you sure that the play I'm seeing is normal? I have a number of cosmetic issues with this rifle and I thought that this is just one more flaw.

Do you have a 527 in 7.62x39 that has the same play in the bolt?

I have handled a lot of the smaller CZs. The handle is inserted into the side of the bolt, it is a separate piece, and can be readily removed when stripping the bolt. I would not be alarmed if there is a bit of wiggle.

Thanks everyone for your help. After reading through some other forums on the web and a few YouTube videos I see that the wiggle in the bolt I'm experiencing is a result of the way the bolt handle and the bolt are connected in the mini mauser action. Doesn't give me a ton of confidence in the bolt, but I guess others with 527s have been running this type of bolt and handle combination for years without issue.
