Should I be concerned if my A2 flash hider is not properly indexed?

As I understand it, the flats on the flash hider should be vertical, with the solid portion on the bottom to prevent the muzzle blast from kicking up dust when prone. I was just curious as to whether the current position of the flash hider could be affecting my shots (i.e. moving them off centre to the right, as the flash is being directed left). Here's a pic. As you can see, it is more than just a "bit" off.

You're over thinking this.

What does the flash hider do?

Directs the gas

Where is the gas?

Behind the bullet

Where is the bullet when the gas hits the flash hider?

in the air between the barrel and target

Will having a canted flash hider effect the bullets trajectory?

I will let you answer that for your self.

The thing is, if that's his concern he probably needs a new rifle
In terms of accuracy, turning it won't help
In terms of POI, adjusting your sights will fix it
In terms of compensation, it's pushing right instead of down

I'll admit, I am being anal about having the flash hider properly indexed. I guess I just want the rifle to look "correct".

The norinco does not use a crush washer , its a spring type lock washer ..

Thanks for pointing that out! I had not noticed that. I'll try backing it off a bit and see if the lock washer still holds it reasonably tight. If it does, do you know of any reason that I couldn't replace it with a crush washer (I happen to have a spare handy)?

Wow, I'm shaking my head at some of the posts in this thread....just....wow...

Your A2 is installed improperly. Order a crush washer from One Shot Tactical and install it properly. Make sure you get at least 90deg of "cush" when you index it. Be careful not to torque the barrel in the receiver, it's best to use a barrel block if you don't know what you are doing.
