Should I be happy with this accuracy out of my Russian SKS?

The guys here are being nice.
But in reality one good group means nothing. Not that your group is good by any means.
I can show you a 0.3" 5shot group at 218 yds that I was not able to do again. Mere chance.
Why don't you shoot 5 such 5 shot groups in a row at 60y or better at 100y and post them here.
Then we will be able to judge your rifle.

As stated, this was simply just a quick test on the "accuracy" of this SKS. I'm not trying to make a tack puncher of it.

For the rest: Once it warms up I will take it out again and make some more prints, at some longer ranges as well. Thanks and have a great evening.

Brapp, I'm not bashing you. You didn't say it's a tack driver in the original post.
I'm just stating that one group is not relevant. Hard habit to break since I work in statistics.
Shoot a few groups in a row and then judge the accuracy.

Anywhere from 1.5" - 3" @ 102 yards , averaging likely around 2.5" is what I get with this SKS here.... Using that 30 cent a shot HP dominion arms Ukrainian stuff from canadaammo.ca = GREAT STUFF :) , note I do NOT use the bayo bipod for accurate shooting lol

Id be satisfied with your guns accuracy considering @ 100yards that group would appear to only open up to 2"

Some ammo is definitely better than others.
When i first shot my SKS I shot my buddies ammo in it. it was painted brass with purple/pink sealant of some kind around the neck of the brass and the primer area.
It shot amazingly with that was cloverleafing at 50 ish yards.

I bought some cheap copper washed stuff in a 1440 rnd green crate with spam cans inside unmarked make and it shoots quite a bit worse.
I wouldn't say it shoots terrible but its obviously worse than it was with his rounds.

But the bullets were cheap and they shoot well enough for being like 200$ for the crate.

SKS accuracy seems to vary so damn much between rifles even if they all have pristine bores, well at least the Russian ones , never had a Chinese SKS? . Had 2 unissued rifles, the keeper shot golf ball size groups at 100y the other shot dinner plate sized groups at 100y? most SKSs seem to be between that spectrum , I think accuracy on these rifles mostly depends on perfect stock, gas tube and bayonet fit . The OPs rifle is a keeper im thinking.

Actually you should be VERY happy with those results. My buddy cut his down to 18.7/ then gave it the 11 degree target crown. He gets those results now too, but that's only after all the work.

Thank you for the link. I need some instructions to get going with it. Computer stuff is not intuitive to me.

Pretty straight forward. Upload a photo of your target, use the zoom-in feature to go to a known size reference, then use the "set size reference" button to draw a line over a known distance and input that distance. (Example: one-inch gridlines on target, bullseye circle, etc.). Then make sure you have all the info correct such as distance and bullet size. Then set your POA, and then you can input bullet holes. Drag the target image around to get the crosshairs lined up on your bullet holes. After three holes, it will start to calculate your group information. Click "print group size" to put the group info on the image, same with session info. Then cllick "download target image" and click and drag the finished image to your desktop.

Here's my last results. Pretty bad, haha! But I'm new to shooting.

Surplus ammo isn't exactly made for accuracy. It's made for how many hundred thousand rounds the maker can put out in a month (or week, or year, or DAY, depending on the quota. Quality Control comes in a very, very poor second).

My SKS will usually put Czech ammo into 4"/100 yds if I do my part. Plenty accurate for a battle carbine. It will still incapacitate an enemy up to about 400 ysd.
