So here is how things went in the last few months.
I got to thinking about sheep season a few months ago, and wanted to start shedding a bit of weight off what I am packing in.
This year a couple hunting partners and I are going to back pack into a new area, we normally horseback hunt, so weight is not as big of deal. But this year everything is on my back so weight needs to go.
So I was considering a lighter gun. I really like Kimber rifles, so I started looking for a Kimber Adirondack in 308, well not to may places had one. SO I emailed my normal store to see if they could get one, and how much and how long of weight to get it.
Got a email back same day. Normal for this dealer yes we can get you one, couple weeks away and the price was great. This was July13, so I ordered it up, paid my deposit, ordered so Lapua Brass and some Berger bullets.
Put my normal sheep gun up for sale(it sold)(my bad should have known better)
Great now the weight, couple weeks goes by, nothing, then 4 weeks, then almost 5 weeks, so I send a email, I get a cc email to there guy at the border is the gun there?
weekend goes by, get a cc email back from the guy that yes it is at the border. Thats it. I am not sure how long, but sadly my sheep trip is at the end of next week, so if it shows up tomorrow I still wont be able to mount a scope build loads and get a load ready with enough shooting time to be confident in it hunt sheep for my trip. Sucks had I been told it could possibly take this long, I would have paid the couple hundred more for a rifle that other dealers had on there shelf. Wanted to support the dealer I have been getting things from.
So would you be pissed?
Or am being mellow dramatic?

Thats really tough and I would be disappointed, but probably not pissed. If you dont have an appropriate backup then you might wanna go out and buy yourself a light budget gun in that calibre so that you will have somthing to use. The tikka t3 light is generally a safe bet in a light platform or go super cheap and buy an axis and sell it when your hunt is done.

Counting on an import being on time is a mistake. Now you know.
They shouldn't have promised it to you either.
Do you have a backup gun?
I have a feeling that your going to get on a sheep so don't stress on the import. It will all work out.
Good luck!

I do have a back up gun, so that's not the end of the world. My first custom I ever got, the weight is quite a bit more. Or maybe I should just break out the old 54 cal cap and ball and make it a real challenge.
I guess the big thing was the couple weeks thing, I did not know it was coming out of the states. Maybe I should have as most do.

Don't ever sell any guns, ever. Lesson learned:d

It's hard to rely on anything that has to come through the border. They shouldn't have promised something out of their control to you either. I would be disappointed, but on the other hand, I likely wouldn't have sold the other gun until I had the new one in hand. Just can't rely on customs, especially with firearms....Live and learn man

Pissed no , disappointed maybe.
The hunt has not come and gone and the rifle in the safe needs some exercise.
Venting makes one feel better, but dont let it eat you or your gutz will hurt the whole time yer hunting taking away from the experience.

My take is he thought it usually takes a couple of weeks and to make the sale promised this. I'd be looking at some type of small acknowledgement from the dealer that he shouldn't have promised what was beyond his control. Everyone makes mistakes it's how its handled that determines my future interactions.

Is it an accepted fact that the border and gun stores are chronic liars about delivery times? Yes.

Is it right? No.

If you don't have your new gun for your hunt, I'd be pissed, and I think the place that promised it to you should be helping you arrange something to carry for your hunt.

My ATACR went from 8 to 18 weeks last summer......

Lesson learned for you, and a good reminder to all of us to take whatever timeline your given, and double it, if not triple.....and that sometimes spending an extra 10% for something on the shelf is worth it.

your predicament would cause a few choice words ...not even under my breath...they would be loud enough to be heard, but its not the end of the world... I've been on backpack sheep hunts and there is always a way to adjust your load for total weight or comfort of transport...take the heavier rifle (provided it's not a "heavy barrel") and shed a 1/2 pound somewhere else...or toughen up a bit more, you'll never regret that on a sheep hunt!!

So a few months before a big hunting trip you ordered a gun, and then sold yours before the new one came in? I'd be pissed all right...with myself.

But you have a back-up, so just suck it up and carry the extra weight. And as stated already, don't dwell on it and let it interfere with the enjoyment of your trip. Good luck!

You missed something.

He was told "a couple weeks", and that hasn't happened.

He doesn't need to be pissed at just himself. Someone at the gun store overpromised and under delivered.

It's always good to have something to fall back on but sometimes that doesn't work either, trust me I know.
Hopefully everything will come together for you.
For me, as of late I rely on my sig line.

Nope, didn't miss it at all. I am simply so accustomed to screw-ups like this at retailers that I would never trust their promises to the point of getting rid of my tried-and-true before I received the replacement, and had a chance to test it out. I really doubt this is the first time this has happened to the OP. Fool me once...

Come on...you're taking time off work, spending money and your precious vacation time on an important hunting trip (they're all important!)...are you going to pin your hopes and plans on a casual off-the-cuff comment made by a near-minimum-wage sales clerk who may have been hired last week, and might be gone before your trip even happens?

Kevan's sig line says it all.

But, beyond my irritation and embarrassment at having been foolish enough to fall for this, I know that I would have another back-up gun waiting in the wings for just such an emergency. The OP states he has one as well...it's just not the gun he hoped and intended to use. So, once again, no need to dwell on the negative. He should look forward to a great hunt and forget this little glitch. :)

This is perhaps one of the rites of passage for Canadian gun owners. Promised something by a dealer in "just a couple of weeks" only to wait many months or even longer before it arrives. The rule of thumb is that unless the dealer has the item in stock and there in front of you no one can reliably predict delivery.
