Should I be worried about this??

I noticed two small nicks around the chamber area, as well as on the outside rim of the bolt head. Should I be worried? There were five incidents (yesterday) where I experienced extremely hard extractions (five times fired neck-sized brass, now in the garbage), but I was able to muscle the bolt open without incident. I can't imagine this caused the dents. What do you think? It doesn't seem to impact performance.

i dont know if i would be worried form a safty standpoint but from a funtion stand point that cant be good for any thing.

id be goin to a smith and have them lathe and true every thing up. they may need to bump your chamber deeper depending on . if they have to take off a significant amount of material
 
Were you running anywhere near Max. reloads by any chance? If I'm shooting my reloads and have severe extraction problem's, thats the first place I look.
And yes +1 on getting it smoothed/squared up by a gunsmith.

Yeah, I was running near maximum loads, but I can't see 43 grains of IMR4895 pushing 168 grain SMK's overkill.

You could have tried bumping back the shoulders on your brass, neck sizing five times in a row might have been pushing it. As for the dents, something got in there at some point, shouldn't hurt anything but keep an eye on it.
 
I cannot see that those little nicks would have anything at all to do with any functional issue. If you are experiencing problems like hard extraction, you will have to look elsewhere for a solution.

The hard extraction is due to multiple neck sizing and a certain brand of brass (S&B).
 
I fail to see how loads that don't expand the case head into the bolt face recess can damage either the bolt or chamber face whether from a full length or neck sized cartridge. Brass, lead and copper are all softer than steel and should not leave nicks that look like they were made by hard tool steel, which is not the damage you would observe from a hot load. I'll say they were manufacturing defects that have been there all along and are now more visible that the finish has worn away from the contact areas. If there is a reliability issue with cycling the action, the nicks should be cleaned up; normal loads should not result in difficult bolt lift regardless of the brass used, provided the shoulders are bumped back and the brass is trimmed to length. When in doubt get an opinion from a gunsmith you trust.
 
i bet if you bumped the shoulder back and trimmed this issue would go away


I full length size all my brass all the time,
