Should I bother getting my RPAL?

I always suggest to people to get both. If you're going through the trouble to get your PAL then you're going to have to go through it all over again if you later decide you want to get into pistols. It's one weekend and it's done... get them both at once.

It's been said (by wiser men than me) that, "It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it."

You know what, I will apologize.

I am just getting sick of this type of s**t.

The latest thread by another member here about turning in all of his, and giving up just put me over the edge.

Then the next morning I wake up and login to find this thread.

Apologies to the OP.

But you really have no idea. Their are members here who have been put through alot, and you are complaining about what?

We have it easy compared to some.

I posted that like three weeks ago, now I feel good about myself :p

The real question is why NOT get it? It doesn't change your status to the police-they already think you're a mass murderer because you have a licence at all.

There are provisions for the inspection of restricted firearms, yes. Does that mean some flatfoot will come busting into your house at three AM demanding to see your safe? No. If he does, do a little happy dance, because you just got a licence to sue :)

If you don't have it, you'll no doubt fall in love with something at the gun store, or the EE and not be able to buy it because it's some kind of big scary gun with a shoulder thing that goes up and blasts nuclear shells millions of miles before rendering all the tigers in Asia extinct with one shot.

sorry, got into the gin early tonight.

As a newbie myself to the use and ownership of firearms i asked myself the same questions in regards to rpal. I'm writing mine in the next couple of weeks and joining a local range. Here is why, It does open up alot of options for additional types of firearms and gives me a local area to shoot at the range and belong to a club of people with similar interests to hang and have fun. My interest are in the military surplus but now i want to extend it to pistol shooting. My local range does the ipsc i think it is called. A league type shooting for pistols based on time and accuracy on a walk and fire course. Very cool from what i've youtubed. There are additonal cost for license and for joining a range but are worth it in the long run. In the end if the additional cost and you have the time and interest for a range go for it. Life is short and this is just one more thing for the bucket list! LOL

Thanks for your input guys. Although there are alot cool restricted rifles I basically just want a handgun.I got a chance to handle one a couple weeks ago and it really made me reconsider my decision not to get a RPAL. After all, you never know when you might need to shoot a baby. (sarcasm)

I'm not that worried about letting an officer of the law in my home but I even hate when family and friends drop by anannounced so I certainly don't enjoy middle of the night Gestapo visits either :) Glad to hear this is not a common occurence.

Cheers!

hmmm, you should be a motivational speaker.
What we don't need is cynical pesimists who s**t on people for asking a question.
Some on this forum can rant like the above and it works, others just sound like asshats with attitude problems. Go figure eh....

To the op, if you have your pal you're already on the dark side. If they come for our restricted guns, you and your non-restricted are next anyways.

x2..

Remember the sequence:

  1. Pass the tests
  2. Wait…then wait….check your status online, make all your phone calls and harass your mail carrier
  3. Go shopping

Get it now and buy a cheap norinco, even if you don't plan on using it.....If the anti's ever change it up in the future, the RPAL may very well turn into a 12.XX one day...you want to be locked in son.

This. Except save and buy what you want, unless it's going to take a significant amount of time to save the money. Personally I'm after a Gen4 Glock 17, and have already talked to the right people to buy it. Just need a few good paycheques :)

Rights are a lot easier for anti's to eliminate if you aren't actively using them. If we do go down the wrong road later, you'll want to have this license now.

By getting your RPAL not only will you help the Canadian economy, but you will also find a need to make more money in your profession to support your RPAL.....:ar15:

:D Everyone wins!!!

I didnt get my RPAL, but i wish i did it at the same time. oh well, i couldnt afford it at the time, and i wouldnt mind putting the money towards ammo.

but eventually, i will be upgrading, and then getting a tokarev tt33 :D

It's a good idea, mainly due to the fact you can get more into the shooting sports, be able to buy something you want but can't otherwise, and in case it changes, you have yours already.
