Should I Buy a Kimber Stainless Target II 10mm?

I would like some opinions on whether I should buy a Kimber Stainless Target II 10mm pistol. The pistol would be used mainly for target practice (I shoot IPSC matches).

I've read a number of different opinions (some good, some bad) on Kimber's quality and customer service (mostly bad) and it appears 10mm ammo is hard to come by in the "Great White North." Anyone out there who has owned one of these pistols care to comment? Thanks.:confused:
 
If you are going to use it for IPSC practice then I would suggest using whatever caliber your IPSC gun is in.. or better yet the actual gun you use for IPSC.

10mm is a great load and super fun to shoot but as you said very difficult to find ammo. I have a G20 in 10mm and it is shot for fun. If I am practicing it is always with my Shadow as that is what I use for IPSC.

Does Kimber (or aftermarket) offer .40 barrel that you can swap out to reduce reloading costs? .40 brass is everywhere and far cheaper. The only way I can seem to find 10mm brass is by buying loaded ammo then reusing the brass.

BTW if you do not reload then don't bother w/ 10mm as factory loads are pretty low, the real fun begins when you build your own.....

As far a Kimbers, I have never owned one. Looked at them and Colt when I got my 1911.... bought a Colt combat.

I heard Kimber no longer makes a 10mm...I'd love to own one but I wouldn't use 10mm for IPSC, just stick with .40 - brass is too rare to be loosing at matches. Plus you don't need that much power to meet major PF.

I just got a G29 and might eventually get a .40 barrel for it. Already collecting .40 brass.
 
ya, to me practice means tons of ammo, so for that 10mm is probably a bad idea. 9mm would be infinitely wiser, methinks, at least when it comes to practicing in volume.
 
Just so you know, getting 10mm anywhere is not an easy task.

Pretty much everyone I know orders their stuff online and reload both. It's a sad, sad thing that the 10mm isn't basking in the limelight. It's very possibly the best cartridge that nobody ever knew about.

Also, why are you thinking of going with a Kimber instead of a Delta Elite?
 
That is not a model you can just order up from your gunshop. Do you have a line on one? I had a chance to buy a few years back in Red Deer from a local shop but I hesitated and it was sold. Looked nice but I too had heard bad things about Kimber, MIM parts and poor customer service for us Canucks. As for ammo, reload or buy a gun in .40 S&W.
 
I have a Kimber Stainless Target II and I would put it ahead of my Colt Delta any day of the week.:D

As for the Kimber service, I have no experience with that but 1911 parts are anything but rare.:cool:
 
If you want to shoot IPSC seriously, get a double stack 1911 in 40SW. Nothing wrong with the 10mm but it's single stack and expensive to feed. Unless you want to shoot just for fun. Don't get the 9mm either unless you want to shoot minor.

Not my experience at all. I called their head office in the US about buying a replacement rear sight leaf for my Eclipse Target II. The leaf had broken off during a range session.

Within 10-days I had received from them a whole new rear adjustable sight. They sent it to me for free without even asking if I was the original owner of the gun (I'm not.) I would not hesitate to buy another Kimber product.
 
I also checked a Kimber out in Red Deer and kick myself for walking out the door without it still...

I have 3 10mm handguns a Colt Delta Elite/G20 /G29 and I have conversion 40S&W barrels for both of the Glocks.

I am now looking at buying a Fusion the owner was the owner of Dan Wesson that sold out to CZ.

I was starting to wonder why CZ dropped the 10mm line until I found out that 1/2 of the Fusion handguns are sold in 10mm and they are available in 6" long slides and bobtail grips...

Check Fusion out you may drop the idea to get a Kimber pretty quick when you see them.

Out of curiosity.. Was it the gun from Backcountry Sports? I was very close to picking it up, but like I said what I had read was not favourable for Kimber. Knowing what I know now I would have picked it up and worried about the small stuff later.
 
6 boxes? Are you for real? If one is to shoot IPSC, I'd think the person to go thru 100-300 rds a practice session, at the least! MINIMUM!! 250-400 preferred...

P.S. Canadian Tire in Red Deer had at least 6 boxes of American Eagle 10mm. If I hadn't left my 10mm back in Ontario, it woulda been gone.

Factory 10mm is pathetic if you are looking for real 10mm Auto ballistics... Like I said LOAD YOUR OWN.
 
I just bought a Kimber 10 mm and it took me about 4 months to get it from time of order but Kimber does make them. I found 10 mm brass easy to get. I got 1000 rounds within 2-3 weeks from Mystic Precision. It looks great but haven't shot it yet. Steve
