i think i should but as always i suppose its a gamble...

-its a mauser 98 action
-newish bull 308 barrel
-custom break on the end
-ramline stock
-custom trigger (the guy at the gun shop thinks its a timley? or something like that
- beefey rings and bases

the whole rig has new blueing, and the bolt is polished, its nice balance veryyy crisp light trigger. i was in the marked for a long range hunting rig and although this might be a little bit from that it will deffinitely do the job fine what do you think?

oh ya its 400 bucks and in great shape
only thing is the shop owner dosn't know how it shoots... thats the gamble but it deffinitely looks like a serious shooter

Unless you know who built it it is a bit of a gamble. It would be nice if you could shoot it. Just a thought - a Ramline stock isn't really the sort of stock that would be chosen for a serious custom built.

BUYING new or used

I would look around a bit more, take your time don't rush into this one; one example is the REMINGTON sps in 700 can be bought for approx $500. from wholesale it would be a better weight for a hunting rifle and they shoot well. Also a better resale value if you should ever want to sell it, (no one sells remingtons though)!!! Take care Bill.

The biggest thing I

would be concerned with is round count thru the barrel if hoping to just buy it then shoot it for a while. The next would be if it was rebarreled what is the dimensions of the chamber. Is it a tight neck or not? Leade length is not as big a issue as it can be chased. Whether or not neck turning is required is a bigger issue.

If just buying it to rebarrel then I guess go for it. I cannot say for sure as I know diddle about Mauser actions.

Buy

What sort of question is that for a true GUNNUT.. Of course you should buy it..
In fact, you can't afford not to buy it..
