Hey guys,

Just wondering what your opinion is on the restricted firearms test is. I have a fair amount of experience with pistols and rifles alike, and I have been told that I should just challenge the restricted firearms test, (provided i study the manual of course). Is it a difficult test? What are your thoughts?

Your help is greatly appreciated,

J

If you know the book, and safe handling (ACTS PROVE) its an easy test. The course is never a bad idea. I did the non rest. course, then later decided to get restricted, just read the book an watched some youtube videos on safe handling different actions and I nearly aced the test (written and practical

Just read the manual once, you'll do fine. I had absolutely ZERO experience with firearms in general and got 98% on the restricted. Most of the questions are the same from the non-restricted anyways.

The restricted course (and test) is the same as the non-restricted, except 'short'.
It's a joke, go for it.:)

Of course.

It will save you future hassle.

It will also increase the number of "restricted" licenses that the government counts, and increase the impact of "restricted " gun owners in Canada, making it harder for some future Liberal or NDP government to completely ban handguns and other "restricted" weapons.

The greatest strength of gun owners is in their numbers. The more we are, the stronger we are.

Yes.

NAA.

Why not take the course? I've owned restricted weapons since 1977, but I still learned a couple of things. The price isn't much different.
My sons are taking the full course, but a couple of their friends are challenging the course. For a 19 year old to challenge, seems a little odd.

I challenged the restricted test - it's easy! The only thing I had a 'slight' issue with was the handling of the revolver in the practical test. I'd never held a revolver before, but told the instructor that, and he was forgiving of the fact that I didn't know you needed to 'half-####' an old revolver (can't remember what it was) to load through the loading port on the back.

Read your book - challenge the test - DONE.

yea, the reason i cant take the test is the closest town to me offers the test but not the course, and plus it is cheaper to take just the test, the course is now upwards of 150 bucks and i can take the test for less than half of that, so it is both i cant take the course and i save money! I will put that cash towards a norinco 1911 cause im poor. haha :D

When I came out of hibernation (I had a POL for a few years and was grandfathered from FAC days) I challenged both tests after reading the book - no problem what so ever. Just challenge it.

absolutely

You absolutely should - all the guys I know never took the coarse and passed no problem. Just read the book and try and talk to guys who did the test.

The exams are made for a twelve year old to pass. If you are not smarter than a twelve year old, you will fail. If you are smarter than a twelve year old, you will pass.

I was wondering the same thing for my girlfriend. She'll do fine on the written part but she's never held a revolver before. Would the instructors let you handle the firearms for 2 minutes before doing the test just to familiarize yourself?

.. The real KEY is to listen very carefully to the questions asked of you, and make sure you understand them. This is essential, when it comes demonstrating safe handling procedures ! And to ease the pressure a little bit, there is really no rush to answer or demonstrate ! ... Very easy to pass if you use a little common sense ! ... David K

give'r dude! pick a range you want to shoot at and they may offer a combined club safety course/rpal test. That way you kill 2 birds with one stone, once you get your license you already have a range to shoot at without having to take another club safety course

Yes, I have passed my non-restricted when I was 13 without even studing and the restricted is not a huge difference. You'll do fine, trust me.
