thinking of getting a .22, but here's the catch; it would have to be a Norinco M93. I reload, so right now ammo cost is not really a concern (with my other guns).

I know some people will suggest to buy a Ruger, buckmark ets. but I just don't want to spend a $350-400+ on a .22...(I'm much rather get a Norc sig, 1911 or cz copy for the same money)

Lots of fun, nice for any new shooters you might know to come out and try. Good for practicing marksmanship as your errors won't be covered up by recoil. ie flinches and the like... I say for 150 bucks, go for it!

how about a tarus .22 revolver, its in the ruger price range? i'm thinking about that, as it would just be different from my semiautos...

but for 150 you can't really go wrong....

I'd thought about that model, but decided to pay a bit more and buy a used Ruger MK I instead.

Keep your eye out, check out some gun shows... You may find a better deal on a gun that's better quality. A friend of mine picked up a Colt Woodsman for $30 while pooling in with some other folks to buy up guns from a guy who was cleaning out his safe. It needed some TLC, but it's a decent shooter now.

You may not find such an extraordinary deal, but if you aren't in a rush, you never know what you'll find when you least expect it.

I allready have a Taurus revolver (.44), but I prefer semis anyways...btw you should go for it's a nice gun.

I would recommend a Ruger MKII , I really love mine. It's accurate & a fun to shoot. I always start newbies I bring to the range on the Ruger & a brick of ammo is real cheap.

my only complaint with rugers is taking the damn things apart...they come apart easily but putting them together is a pain in the arse; i had one sitting apart for three days on the bench as ia just couldn't manage to get the little ball in the groove thingy (excuse the technical talk lol)!

Just a couple of threads on the M93 on CGN. If you do a search, there'll be more. I don't have any experience with the Norinco M93's. If you can I'd look in the exchange forum for a used Ruger, I've seen them as low as 200 bucks. Yeah, the M93 is only 150 bucks and if it doesn't pan out your not out a lot of money but............IT'S STILL A 150 BUCKS!!!!!!! Selling the M93 would be harder than selling a Ruger.......
Anyhow, your money, your choice but definitely get a .22 handgun because I think everyone should own a .22lr handgun. :D Good luck in your search.

1911 .22 Conversion Units

Yeah, I agree, if you already have a 1911, a .22 conversion unit might be the way to go if you want to get some cheap practice in. Plus you get the advantage of using a platform you are already familiar with. I've had .22 conversion units for my 1911's for over 20 years. In fact the one I have now I like so much it has a semi-permanent home on one 1911 frame. I hardly ever use the .45 top-end for it anymore. [And no, it's not for sale!]

That all said for a dedicated .22 pistol, personally I'd prefer to spend a little extra money & get a Ruger 22/45, MkII, MkIII or even a Browning .22 pistol than go with the Norc woodsman copy. Down the road, if you get the Norc, and are ready to trade up. do you think it will hold it's value compared to the Ruger or a Browning .22 lr?

I would buy a used ruger mark II(I bought mine for $200). If you don't destroy the finish, and you pick it up for a fair price.... basicly your not going to loose any money on it. With the norinco, well I would say your money is wasted. :)

NAA he was talking about a Beretta .22 kit, but your point is taken...

Yes , get a .22lr pistol , I love mine .
I picked up a colt target match pretty cheap , perfect shape and shoots great .
When I take my handguns to the range I find myself shooting it more and more .

Point taken... 'Course there's nothing wrong with getting a .22 Conversion Unit on a full size Beretta, either. And dedicated .22 lr pistols in Beretta form aren't bad, too...:p

Get the 22 LR

I have a 22 LR Taurus revolver and a 22 LR Buckmark std URX.
I can smile ear to ear after firing off 100 rounds at the range while the guy next to me with his 9mm or 38 is scrambling to pick up the spent casings so he can afford to reload.
Yeh the centerfire gives a bigger recoil and a more satisfying? boom but the 22 makes holes in paper just like the centerfire does and with very little muzzle flip.
