Hey guys, waiting to get accepted into the EE but this seems to be the right place to ask this question.

I can buy a PH in 7 MM mag for about 450; it's in very good condition and I do like the wood rifles. I'm a lever fan and love my .22 ithaca model 72 and my model 94. I simply love 30-30's. I sold my Win model 100 in .308 and looking for a solid all around caliber for elk and moose and the odd change I meet Mr.grizzly in the bush of BC.

Should I move to a PH in 7 MM or keep my Husky 30.06 instead.

Please help, I'm open to your advices ????

Thank you,

PAT

Nice gun if it wasn't for the cracked stock. PH extra magazines are almost impossible to find. For a bit more money I'd go with a new Weatherby Vanguard Series 2

I agree, and this one needs a butt-stock. So, I need to put another 100 to get it fitted in Kelowna which is 50$ in gas on top of everything. I think I'll pass and maybe make my husky a little nicer. That was the goal of getting a PH, so cool looking.

Nothing wrong with either one. My first big game rifle was a PH in 7mm Rem Mag, it was very accurate. Got rid of it, now I have my Dads PH in .30-06 which I never use, having shot rifles with good triggers, I cant stand the PH trigger, they are so hard, I always think the safety is on. If its the only rifle you own, you get used to it.

Since you don't specify which Husky, a 1640- or a 640?, and neither do you stipulate which P-H, so it makes things hard to answer.
If it's a HVA 640, while they are basically the same action, the P-H should use the later design, which includes a streamlines bolt shroud and a sliding, right side safety. The 640 use the bolt shroud mounted swing type, flag safety.
If it's a 1640, then, your choice lays between basically the same type of actions, the 1640 being a small Ring, a bit lighter and the P-H being a Large Ring 98 with an adjustable trigger (for the non basic models, like the 1200).

pdad, aside from the cost of a second magazine the PH Safari is a nice heavy well manufactured gun.
It will be heavy walking with it for a few miles up and down hills, but if your following logging roads it isnt so bad...I used a Safari in 300 Winmag for a couple of years till I fell for the Browning A-bolt.
There where several PH configurations at the Chilliwack show from $350-$475.00 with rings and bases of which you should pay close attention too.
The PH I used shot very accurately as in minute of milk jug out to 200 yrds and being a 300winmag it made for good stopping power.
Tight Groups,
Rob
