Should I get the rough rider?

I'm largely a Rifle guy, I mean I've got three rifles and only one handgun. You may have seen my "Beretta 92s" thread, that is my only current handgun.

9mm while the least expensive pistol caliber center-fire ammo, is still $18.99 for that cheap Barnual stuff which my range doesn't allow because it is steel core, so I buy Stellier and Bellot, which at my local CT is $21.99/50rnd box.

I need something which shoots cheap ammo, so I have a handgun I can shoot often. I want a revolver, and I like westerns.

I was told about the Heritage Rough Rider, it can do both .22lr and .22mag. It seems to be only $299, but the buddies at my range say it is well built, and that it would be a good buy.

Does anyone here own it, what are your thoughts, is it a buy or no buy?

I don't know anything about that revolver, but I know you can get 9mm for much cheaper than 21.99 a box. Try Bass Pro locally or order a case online from a sponsor. Canadaammo has free shipping over $200

I would never pay $22 a box of 9mm.. I reload for $8 but anyway.. 22 single action revelovrs are a lot for fun to shoot and you go thru less of ammo than a semi. Haven't tried that gun on tho. Look up some reviewe only.

It gets pretty costly buying a box of 50rds here and there. You can save $0.10+ per round by buying bulk if you shoot a lot and can swing it. At 18.99 box of 50 you are $0.38 per round

Few examples below,

The revolver that you show pictured is the center-fire SAA, not the .22 LR model.
These are reputedly made by Pietta, made from steel, shipped in the white, and then finished in the USA.
So, they should be a quality revolver.

The .22 LR model is a completely different animal.
It looks very crude by comparison, much like an Umarex non-gun.
It uses similar die-cast construction, and uses a grip and cylinder frame made of Zamac (zinc-aluminum alloy).
The barrel is just pressed into the frame.

A Ruger Single Six, by comparison, has a steel cylinder frame, machined and finished to final specs.
The barrel is screwed into the cylinder frame.
The grip frame is a high quality investment cast aluminum alloy, finished to final specs.
The internal parts are steel.
In terms of quality, there really is no comparison to the el-cheapo Roughrider.

Some reviewers say it's an okay gun all the same.
But, some actual users describe it as inaccurate and worn out after a few thousand rounds.
They describe constant broken parts, poor cylinder to barrel alignment, frequent misfires, and other problems.

I think that you get what you pay for.
If you want a .22 LR SAA revolver, but don't want to invest in a Single Six, then the Pietta .22 LR is a better choice.
Take a look at the ones that are shown on the Marstar site.

I would tell you to buy one of these, in a 4 /3/4", 5 1/2", or even a 7 1/2" barrel length, either just .22 LR, or with the magnum cylinder as well, but every single variant is sold out.

No surprise there.
