Should I go with an IR laser or just a low power R/G one for NVG

So as I am prone to do I had pulled my Ar out of the locker and mounted a shiny new Aimpoint optic on it a few weeks back , turned it on and went to grab my NV , I found that there is a severe problem with aiming when there is a chunk of 4 inch optic hanging in front of your eye . So I figured that it may be good to get a laser for easy point and shoot . However I spent a few bucks on my NV and dont want to burn them out with a normal R/G Laser , but the cost of an IR laser is stupid expensive .

Does anyone have any dealings with this type of scenario, will a "normal" laser burn out my tube or am I just being a worrywart ?

Someone point me in the right direction ?
