Should I go with taller rings?

I just mounted this scope tonight (not sure if it's going to stay on this rifle) and I like the height that it's sitting at, but I can't get my lens covers on. A 40mm objective would probably allow me to go down to a low ring and still have enough room for lens covers. I could always take a bit off the bottom of the front lens cover and it would probably fit, but I don't know if I want to go there. I have Leupold Alumina lens covers on one of my other rifles and this is the type of application where they really shine.

can you notch the bottom of the lens cover where it sits over the barrel and then slide it on?

I have that exact same problem.
One of the covers I have is slightly less thick and will go on mine with a bit of sanding.
That rear mount looks a little.....................

Ya I know....I might not have the scope sitting in the right place for eye relief and if it has to be moved forward you can see why it's like that. Until I sit down at a bench and shoot it standing I don't really know where it's set.
