Should I keep it? M305

I never really gave the m305 a chance, I shot it abit, and hated it. Their not really rare so you can always find one if you do sell it. They go on sale for 550 at some sponsors.

Then again like others said, if its properly indexed and shoots well..... You may wana keep it.
 
Do you have any other non-restricted semi-auto rifles?

If not, then I'd keep it.

Just because (so far), you can.
 
I had my first one in 2004-2005, back when you could get USGI stuff cheap. Had a nicely painted up FG stock, SA bolt which dropped headspace to 3 thou under 308 no-go, GI sights and flash hider, shot well, was reliable.....and I sold it because in the back of my head I kept thinking it was going to blow up in my face. Bought another one in 2013 and won't be making that mistake again lol

Should I scope it or just blast open? I have other things with all types of optics. Both sks are bare maybe this a good iron gun too? I'm probably not going to spend a ton on accurizing and I hate to buy junk so I don't know if I can justify the expense of a scope. If I left it unmolested with just op rod guide swap maybe a 3-9x?

I would invest in a S&J op-rod guide and Spring combo (the best value for your dollar IMHO), it's what I use on my and my customers '14's. I prefer to shoot '14s with irons, you can't go wrong with a USGI Garand or M-14 rear sight. Check out spcamno (sp?) he always NM Flash Hiders up in the EE, or source the aftermarket brake of your choice (opinions vary on options stick with a well known maker and you'll be fine). Those are the only parts I feel are "musts" with a Nork. I highly recommend taking in a clinic. The advice and expertise from fellow "rifle loonies" will leave your head spinning with possibilities!

I would not recommend a 18.5" shorty, I would recccomed a 22 cut and crowned at 18.5".... I have seem many more problems that are not repairable on the factory shorties than on the standard length "22's".

I'm glad you're going to keep it....the M305 is a great gun. You'll be glad too.

Personally, I like to stick with iron sights. Scoping the M14 is a bit of a job, and the results are likely to be mediocre, unless you are willing to spend a lot of time and money.

If you shoot it with the iron sights, it's more fun.
 
DEFINE OLD- i'm 62 and I have 4 305S - ONE OF WHICH I'M REBUILDING, I have about 22 rifles and pistols most of which i'll never shoot again, but dammit I'm a proud poppa- and I don't want to be holding nothing when the Chinese/Russians come a callin
ie from my cold dead hands
 
Cheap thrills, you can always sell it down the road if you lose your mind and take up stamp collecting.

Scoping them is easy. Bassett mount, couple cheap weaver rings and viola! No shift in zero or problem with my rigs over 6 years now.

There may still be wooden GI stocks out there. I picked one up and put my m305 into it. A little bit of fiddling but shoots better than my synthetic ever did as the synthetic had a flaw and wouldn't seat right. New stock looks beautiful and with a cams mount and a optic it shoots touching groups with my reloads.
 
Piles and piles of great advice here! After all these years and many CA M14 rifles and M1As and many Norinco rifles... I only have ONE 2007 Norinco will all US Parts on there. My M1 Garand gets all the shooting... why? Because shooting an M14 is fabulous but shooting a Garand is even way more fun! Besides, I like PING!!!!
