Should I own a chronograph?

Generally speaking I don't use my chronograph a lot. A couple times a year to check out a load. It's nice to get a reference point early on in the load development. A lot of shooting clubs are not chrony-friendly now days.

Yes if you handload you should use a chrony it is the best way to know if you are over pressure or not. My 300 wm nosler rifle does not show any pressure signs at or above max powder charge but the velocity of the bullet will (I have to rely on average velocity as per loading manuals) for a 300 wm

Yes I tried to load for a 370 Sako using a load my gunsmith gave for Vivitouria powder. Shot I of a Crony and I was only getting 1900 fps. This was a rifle I was taking to Africa, there is little load data on it. I switched to Roeloader 17 and got 2600 fps. Without a Crony I would have never known. Very useful tool.
