I want to paint my m14 but I have a nice stock on it. I put a boyds walnut on on it should I paint it ???

Also will the paint come off after I paint the stock I was going to use camo paint from crappy tire and bake it on like I did to my other rifles

a shame not to put a nice tung oil finish on the walnut. Yes if you dont use an epoxy paint it will flake off eventually.The only non epoxy paint that is bulletproof is cambodian tire spray on bed liner - its indestructable - but only in black unfortunately
 
Don't paint that nice walnut handguard. I'd trade you a plastic one any time for a nice wood one like that. The plastic one's are $15.00, the wood one's are much harder to find, especially a new one like you have.

You are going to want a cheek riser to shoot that gun with a scope. Either a lace on type made of leather or nylon, or, a hard plastic one that requires drilling, like a Karsten or Desert Warrior. You might be happier with a synthetic stock. I hate to see you paint that nice piece of walnut.

You need your head examined if you paint that nice stock & hand-guard ... PM me as I have a couple synthetic stocks & hand-guards sitting around that I may trade ya for that wooden stock/hand-guard? Cheers,

Painting is a personal choice, but personally, I would not paint that stock. I would decide how important paint is to me, and if I couldn't live without it I would get a FG USGI stock to paint. Are you planing on painting everthing, metal and scope too? Camo paint would not be very efective unless you do.
That is a nice walnut stock. It's only a matter of time untill wood stocks disapear and become obsolete.

I agree with everyone here..... don't paint the wooden stock.
The finish would need redoing frequently..... like all the time.... trust me i've been down that road. One solid color.... not a huge deal but a terible waste of a wooden stock. A camo job requiring constant maintenance...... frustrating.

Get a usgi fiberglass, there's several in the ee for reasonable cash. Turf has a few listed at the lowest prices i've seen in a while. I have em too but.... with the modifications and finish i do.... I can't say they are cheap hehehe.

With the increasing dificulty of getting quality wood m1a/m14 stocks ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BORDER, and handguards becoming a rarity, It would be a cryin shame to paint the stock.

however..... it's your hunk o wood..... so it's up to you.

lol, I agree, finish a wood stock with an oil type finish.

Save the paint for synthetic stocks.
 
Please do not paint your stock.
I don't think you will like the result.

If you want to paint something obtain a USGI milspec fibreglass specimen. Its a great and fun project and it teaches you a lot about the M14 rifle.

As for the Boyd stock if you don't like wood sell it or trade it for a nice composite stock.
