So, I got a few freebies, and one of them turns out is a DCRA 7.62 No.4 conversion. Only problem, is its been sportered. Barrel cut down as well as the stock. Now its not all that bad, it actually looks kinda neat.

But, it is a unique rifle and not a lot were made so i am wondering, should I restore it?

Its not going to be a simple slap new wood on it, it will need a complete new .308 barrel as well as a complete stock set minus the butt. So I am wondering, would it be worth it? as it sits its a matching DCRA rifle, sported but matching, with sterling mag.

Opinions?

I would restore that rifle for sure! DCRA's are scarce and therefore valuable making a full resto worth the price of finding the parts. Not to sure where one would find a .308 barrel for an Enfield but I'm sure if they exist someone on here will let you know where such an animal exists.

Leave ia alone and hunt with it.

There are enough DCRA rifles out there at affordable prices and in excellent condition that are available on a regular basis at most decent sized gun shows.

$600 -$800 will get you a very decent specimen that will likely even have the Parker Hale 5c sights intact.

Your rifle wil cost at least that much to reassemble, bed properly in the ways, re barrel etc. Even then, it will be an unkown entity until you shoot it.

Sell it reasonably to someone with an interest, that might just have the needed parts on hand and use the money to buy a complete rifle.

Hmm thanks for the advice.

I don't have any intentions of selling it as "freebie" was a poor choice of words, it was more a gift.

It is a neat looking sporter, and was done fairly decently in comparison to others I have seen.

Rebuild it over time. Some rebuild's can be done for a lot less money than you think. The barrel is an issue, but you can find most of the other parts and wood to make a nice rifle.
