Should Southern Ontario hunters stay out of Northern Ontario

Yes, sometimes the chickens come home to roost.
For sure most outfits were catering to Americans.
Didnt want Canadians who paid in CDN$$. Now they want us....hmmm.
Well, they don't really want us, they just want our $$.

It will be interesting to see if they offer up any 2021 hunts to Canadians at decent prices in CDN$$
I'll be looking for an elk hunt...
 
Hunters, fisherman and sightseers and the money they spend here are welcome and appreciated up north in my opinion. Most folks are polite and respectful during their visit. But some unfortunately have attitude and are disrespectful of property, being it private or crown, and those are the ones that cause hard feelings at times. As others here have mentioned the camps here rely largely on American sportsmen which this year has been non existent, so they have been hit hard. But also keep in mind the majority of the camp owners are American, and are not Canadian citizens and live most of year in the US. They hire northern local folks to work at their camps during the season. So there are a lot of folks on the CERB system this year. Bottom line this whole covid issue has hit the northern economy hard like it has everywhere else. The big benefactor's are the fish and wildlife that have not been taken this year.
 
Were I hunt north of buckhorn annually, I was asked politely to stay in Toronto.
Apparently beaches and schools are closed in Toronto as per my friend up north.
I said I don't know what fake news your listening to, but my kids are full time in public school and the beaches are open.
But I will respect his position.

It really sucked not to hunt this year , as I had no obligation I had to come running back home to for the first time.
Maybe 2021, who knows?
 
That's ok for regular hunters BUT what about all of us wheelchair hunters? We cannot go out into the bush let alone to hunt for food, unless there are very special people out there to assist us.
I have been trying to go moose/deer hunting for years but now that I am in a wheelchair now, that dream has evaporated. Are there any gun clubs, service organizations or a group of dedicated hunters willing to help take me out hunting.

Maybe contact the ofah, I think they've set up hunts like that in the past.
 
Mixed reaction up here in Geraldton. We saw more moose hunters this year than usual. Not sure about the big boost to the economy. Most of you guys coming up are in trailer caravans with all your food and booze already on board. The local gas station might see more business, although at the outrageous price they charge for gas, they don't need it anyway. Helped out one party early in the season who came all the way up and then found out getting into wmu 17 wasn't as easy as driving and parking, lol.

Like I say though, mixed feelings...we probably had a few hundred people coming through town every couple of days for two weeks, most residents were leary, as we have been covid free. Coincidently, Hearst, two hours east of us just declared a state of emergency yesterday because of a covid outbreak. I was in Heart two weeks ago, on the drive there, I passed 200 vehicles, all moose hunters, heading west. That was in a two hour period. One guy in the ditch, travel trailer and the works, on the straightest stretch of highway there. I won't be going hunting till all you guys are back home, not because of the covid, but because I like to hunt without 25 ATV's whipping by me every few hours.

I don't see how where I live would even come up. My truck doesn't wear any dealership badges, and when I roam through Ontario who is going to know where I live?

When I went up to Cochrane and Smooth Rock Falls this past summer to hike into New Post Falls, the only people along the route who could have possibly known where I lived were the motel staff, and almost all of them were East Indian and couldn't give a #### where I was coming from.

Where I hunt isn't very far North anyway... I'm usually in Parry Sound District.

That's highway 69. 17 is Sudbury/north bay. So that makes me a northerner
 
What grinds my gears is when southern hunters come up North and act like they own the place. I saw 3 separate camps setup literally in the middle of a road. I understand wanting to have an area to yourself, but its public land, and restricting access to it is illegal. They were reported to the COs. The only other thing is people leaving trash all over the place. I can't count how many bags of trash I've hauled out of the bush.

Most guys aren't bad, just treat everyone with respect and courtesy and we all get along just fine.
