Should the "Hunting!" section be a Group Membership on CGN??

I lol'd. I think that the hunter haters need to realize that huntng is probably one of the major reasons we still own guns. What is the point of target practice if you're never going to shoot anything?

You may not believe this, but many people shoot rifles as a form of martial art in target shooting.
Pistol shooters, trap/skeet/SC shooters, small bore ISU shooters, the list goes on.
Many of these rifles , hand guns , and pistols were never designed to shoot anything but targets.
That being said, I',m one of those guys that owns almost every type of fire arm for hunting, and match rifles for everything from muzzle loaders , short range 3P guns to F/O class guns, and hut everything I can.

So what if there are anti's on the hunting forum. It causes discussion and will show newbs that are reading the forums counter arguments. And then there is freedom of speech. As gun owners we know what it is like to have our rights taken away so why would we take 'em away from others as long as it is not offensive. Just prove to the anti with stats and facts all the pros of hunting. If you can't handle it, ignore it.

I dont just shoot stuff, and leave it for the wolves to eat like some people. I am more of a personal protection guy.

And the same argument could be used against target shooters.. leaving thier brass round, making a mess at ranges, shooting up the stands. etc..

The fact is that EVERY sport has it's bad apples, You don't like it when anti-gun activists use extremly rare and isolated incidents of legal gun owners commiting a crime with a gun (or shooting a spouse). So don't do it to hunters.. The ethical hunters don't like them either, so don't paint them all with the same brush..

I just started a thread in this forum about shooting a bunch of gophers. I didn't eat a single one, and don't plan to. But the land owner [my father-in-law] was sure happy to see them gone, and wants me to return next weekend to get another hundred. I won't, though, since I'm going fishing next weekend.
Not every animal that is shot needs to be eaten.
But, if I ever saw another hunter shoot and leave a deer, moose, elk or something like that, you bet I'd report him!
Someone said that just because something is legal, that doesn't make it ethical.
Ethics are personal beliefs and differ with each individual. My ethical code may not match yours. You may things I'm a big jerk for killing a bunch of gophers, but you know what? It was legal, and I had a great time doing it.
What is legal is the baseline. That is what matters. What your ethics are beyond that I couldn't care less. Keep them to yourself.
When I posted the thread about shooting gophers, I put it in the hunting forum, not the target shooting forum, or the how to make doilies forum. This the the forum where we discuss legally using firearms to take the life of a critter. If that bothers someone, then stay out. This is the hunter's home. This is where we can be ourselves. We shouldn't have to tiptoe around other people when we're here in our own home.
