Should the "Hunting!" section be a Group Membership on CGN??

The hunting section needs to remain open to everyone.

Hunting is and integral part of firearms ownership in this country. It is part of our Canadian history and current way of life. This is called CANADAIN gun nutz after all.

Part of being a Gunnutz is learning to accept and understand ALL of the elements of Canadian firearms ownership from Tacticool to Fudd to Long range competitions to trap and skeet.

We are all "together" so find a way to deal with it.

Not where I come from.

Albertans have a long and proud history of great hunts (and other freedoms). I may yet have to retire there... Foothills, vistas, horseback, coyote hunting/

But... I did have to LOL when I saw where you posted for a "From", and thought Jeebus, they even hunt Seasons over there!!!

Keep in mind for the new shooter they have to be exposed to hunting to see the greatness of it. It may not be the best idea to build more fences between non hunters and hunters.

It has been my experience that I have to turn someone onto shooting before I turn them on to hunting. Not everyone was exposed to hunting at a early age, we should do everything we can to create more hunters.

Can't take some trolling? Stay off the Net.

Probably one of the best, and most realistic posts I've read in a while. Well done to you, Sir.

Dude that's just unfair. I come to this forum almost daily and love reading 90% of the stories and pictures that people share here.

But there are many "kill only what you eat" hunters out there, and yes I'm one of them. If you feel that as long as it is legal to shoot an animal then it is moral to do so, that's your prerogative and yes your right do to so. However if you come on a public internet forum and post about it then you should accept that not everyone will feel like high-fiving you for what you did. Not saying it's objectively wrong, but people have different opinions!

"Hunting!" is one of the best forums on CGN, and a pretty civil one as far as internet forums go. I really don't get this thread. Seriously, who's the elitist here? Who's trying to divide hunters?

I was referring to the posts that go off on a moral tangent about shooting but not eating a beaver, coyote, gopher etc, or hunting an animal for it's fur. Obviously you do not fit into this category, these types of rants are from anti hunters who do not want to just come out and say they are anti hunting for fear of being called a troll.

If someone does not believing in killing an animal for whatever reason, so be it. Killing a living creature is not for everyone. Many can't stomach the sights, smell and have a moral issue. That is OK, I can understand. But when these self same people start to preach about the morality or the idea that something gets "wasted" in a condescending tone It bothers me, in the same way fudds are willing to throw the black rifle mall ninja's under the bus, or some complete f#$king douce sends a letter to Outdoors Canada and writes out how OK he is with the gun registry.

This is what I am referring to and generally starts with " I don't mind if someone shoots a skunk so long as they eat it but.................. BLA BLA BLA"

I don't know if that clears anything up.

One of the best posts I have read in awhile. I agree 100%, we as a community stand have to support each other, there are times however when some of the things posted here are tasteless, we however seem to pick our battles poorly and that needs to stop.

I agree, good post. Thanks hillmanr2 for stating your point of view in such a respectful way. If I was proud and excited to share a hunting story with other CGNers I wouldn't appreciate people "p*ssing on my parade" with moral objections I've heard a million times before either.

If someone wants go out and kill a baby panda turn it into sausages I'll be the first to ask "what does baby panda taste like??" I'm just real uneasy about taking an animal's life solely for the sporting value of the hunt.. because in my belief system any animal's life is very precious... BUT with all the money I've spent on permits, tags ( esp. the unfilled ones!!), hunting/firearm association fees, equipment, practice........ I definitely see myself as being VERY pro-hunting!

Naw Sulisa, unfortunately I changed it recently as last winter was tough on the local deer and antelope, this winter has been truly devastating. The local ungulate's have taken a nasty hit with deep crusted snow and harsh temps. Everything's in cycles, be a few yrs before there's good hunting here again. (SE AB)

Meanwhile, with all the moisture the migratory bird huntings going to be great. Just gotta find a good recipe for goose jerky. ;)

Then stay out of hunting. ;)

There will always be elitests in every aspect of anything we do. Fly fisherman hate bait plunkers. Longbow shooters hate crossbow shooters. Blackpowder shooters hate black rifle shooters, and so on and so on. In the end I'll just tell everybody to go piss up a rope.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

right there.

Just another example, that thread of Rachel Ann got locked cuz of too many people #####ing her tatooes are painful to look at.

I always wondered who was forcing them into going in the thread in the first place?

Tough crowd!

As a recent member of CGN I was surprised by the many negative comments between various shooting factions posted on a wide range of topics. I realize that everybody doesn't agree on everything but the expressed hatred of some factions for other factions is really disturbing. One man's pleasure is another man's poison but the level to which some of these discussions drop to is truly eye opening to the uninitiated. It's no wonder we can't get the general public's approval when there is so much infighting between the members of the clan.

There is a lot of troll like posting in hunting, and the odd thing is, it is often made by contributing members.

This has made me curious, I know there are lots of flat out trolls on CGN. Does anyone in Black/Red rifles (I am never there) notice trolling by other contributing CGN members or is this a Hunting Only thing?

Does it happen on any other sections of the board? I admit, I only visit a small percentage of the forums here.

It is in every forum on all topics, not just hunting.

It would be a damn boring world if we all bough the same vehicle, ate the same food, dressed in the same clothes, and had the exact same views as everyone else.

It is how we accept each others differences, not bash them for their opinions that give the so called "collective strength" to Canadian gun owners/hunters/sportman.

It's the internet, just grow thick skin, ignore the trolls, they get bored quick when their holier than thou snickering is ignored.

There's always the red triangle to report offensive posts.
