is an interesting post- explains how U.S. forces get a substantial discount from S&W....40% off in fact!!!

This forum has reported on Words Twice's efforts with Para Ordnance. And it's probably known that Police Ordance in Ontario gives active or former military and police a discount on Glocks.

So why not S&W? Canadians are fighting and dying alongside Americans in Afghanistan-they deserve some recognition.

I've sent Helene L. Piquette, the S&W person quoted in the link above an email- maybe other Canadians should do the same. Remind them of our presence and contribution.

And I don't THINK making this suggestion violates any CGN rules- administrators, please correct me if it does.

40% off S&Ws for their armed forces...

I still can't get over it: 40% off for U.S. forces members.... am waiting to see if I get a response regarding 'allied' members.

If anyone is interested, the point of contact at S&W is:

It may take a while for S&W to respond, if they ever do, but I wouldn't say it's just about "this war".

Canadian police (and military) have used s&W products extensively. Canadian soldiers have fought beside U.S. troops for years. Recently, our military has had a higher profile, and we (Canadians) are talking about it and taking more pride in it.

I'd say extending the discount would honour the past, the present, and possibly the future service of Canadian troops. It shouldn't necessarily just be about "this war".

S&W WON'T offer its armed forces discounts to Canadians

I'm not surprised, but I'm disappointed anyway.

Anyone else feel like contactkming Ms Piquette?

Dear Ms Piquette:

Thanks for your response to my inquiry.

I've perused your website: I guess the current promotion is "Nation's finest", with free magazines or discounts on certain firearms.

Any thought of extending THIS promotion to allied forces?

Thanks again,

Richard

Subject: Would Smith&Wesson consider extending its armed forces discount to Canadian military?

Dear Ms Piquette:

I've known for some time that S&W offers a substantial discount for U.S. Armed Forces, veterans, and service personnel.

After talking to a representative at S&W's call centre, it is my understanding that this does not extend to the armed forces of Allies. Is it possible that this policy could be reconsidered, to recognize and honour the sacrifices of Allied service personnel, not just Americans?

Within my own family, there is a history both of military service AND use of S&W products.

As a paratrooper with Polish forces under British command, my father parachuted into Holland as part of Market-Garden (immortalized in "A Bridge too Far"), carrying an S&W revolver as backup to his Bren gun. He continued to carry it until he left the army, following Occupation service in Germany.

While in university, and as an officer in the Canadian Forces, I became proficient with handguns practicing with S&W 41s.

And as I am sure you are aware, Canadian forces are currently serving with distinction in Afghanistan alongside Americans.

Other manufacturers (###x and yyy come to mind) acknowledge Canadian service by offering Canadians the same sort of discount that American military ypersonnel receive.

Currently, I myself am shopping for a personal firearm. I would far sooner purchase an S&W than one of these other brands. However, financial factors are a consideration and I find myself wishing that S&W's policy acknowledged my military service.

I'm certain that I'm not the only potential customer who feels this way.

So I'll ask: Would S&W consider modifying its policy to honour American brothers-in-arms, not just Americans?

Thanks for your attention to this email- I look forward to your response.

Regards,

Richard

the 40% off was on EVERYTHING- from model 41s to to.... whatever.

so i don't think taking their own hardware was the point of the discount. it was, very simply, to thank them for their military service.

...but, slightly kidding here, the u.s. tends to forget that other nations contribute (militariliy) too...

I'd love to have 2 free mags for my M&P 9mm and a rebate for my .357... I would surely be more interested in buying more S&Ws if thay had a program recognizing our service!

Are you sure they dont have some sort of plan? Most of the manufacturers do but often dont advertise the fact
