shoulda woulda coulda...

Purchased in 1956 -58 (can't recall exactly) a 1916 9mm Luger all matching w/ spare mag in its German holster for $15.00. Made 200% profit when I sold it for $45.00 a couple years later. Shoulda coulda kept it. There were others but this one haunts me the most.

Wow that one takes the cake! But then again...who knew that area was going to turn out to be what it is. My grandfather spent five years of his childhood in Whistler in early thirties in a logging camp both his father and mother were employed at. He always said the constant rain and bugs were a real #####.

Im a failed procrastinating bit coin screw up…. Saw around $1 got around to buying it then realized its $30…..waited for it to drop.

Lee Enfield Jungle Carbine for $13 in excellent condition in the late 60s should have kept it and the cheap 303 ammo at the time. Sold it for $75 a few years later so wasn’t out of pocket at the time. Should have also kept the $15 Cooey Model 82 airforce trainer as well! Learned my lesson and got into SKS and 7.62 and have been a happy camper since.
 
When I got into collecting and selling nice guns, I came across a pre 64 model 70 supergrade in 300 H&H in mint unfired condition for $1750 and said what do I need that for. That was in 2007. Son of a #####.
 
Or go back 10 years and buy quality guitars... Man values have jumped since then, A custom shop strat I was looking at brand new in 2013 that was $3800 is now selling in the ballpark of $15,000 to $20,000

Not a custom shop, but I sort of wished I'd pulled the trigger on a US strat Ultra 20 years or so ago... not everyone likes the lace sensor pickups but I don't mind them and swapping pickups is easy enough..... on the flip side (flame suit on) we do live in a golden age of cheap guitars being cranked out in asia on CNC machines.

15 to 20 grand for a 2013 custom shop strat seems dumb to me, but at that point it's like art pricing and investing in art I suppose.
 
I guess it's kind of the other way around for me.

Back then I was picking up 1895's 1899's 99's in real hard models and calibers to find them in and still have them. Every time I pull one out to think about selling it it starts talking to me and back into the safe it goes.

On the other hand I wish I'd have saved a couple hundred and grabbed a Ruger 77/22 paddle stock back then.
 
In my teens and early 20s every time some offered me something for free or way below it’s value. Pick-up trucks, canoes, guns, tools, land and a private interest free loan to start my own business. Things would be a lot different but I was too young and dumb to realize how expensive and elusive most of those things would become today.
