Hey guys, my girlfriend is still pretty new to the shooting world. I let her try my target rifle but it still has a but too much for what she wants on the shoulder.
If i was to make her some custom loads with a super slow powder like US869 or BMG powder other than some barrel fouling what would happen?
I know not enough powder can create too much pressure, but every manual i have only shows loads for near maximum safe ballistics.
I really dont want to be responsible for a habit of flinching.
Anybody got any ideas?

My wife was surprised at how much recoil the 6.5-284 had. She had her own rifle and it was short enough that she could wear a PAST strap on recoil pad. That solved the issue.

If she is using your rifle, a pad would make a long gun even longer.

I suggest you make her ammo that does not kick so much. Use faster powder, not slower. Do a work up with 4350. You will find an accurate load that kicks less.

Or build her a 260Rem rifle....

"...make her some custom loads..." That'd be a good way of blowing your rifle into small bits. There's lots of light bullet data on Hodgdon's site.

Ya. I have a .243 and may cut down the stock for her. Every load i can find is for super velocities. I was hoping to find a site which would put a 100 grain bullet down to 1500 fps. Target only loads.

Add more weight to that 6.5X284. Heavier gun = less recoil. That or get a muzzle brake installed. Muzzle brake on, for her plinking and off, for competing. A muzzle brake will make it kick like a 243. I also wear a past shoulder pad due to injuries. I'm at maximum weight for competing. My go to bullet is a 139 gr doing 3050fps.
