Show and brag about your best hunt!!!

Not much of a brag but after hunting out of already made stands for 30 years, this guy was shot out of a stand and location I was solely responsible for. I would say this buck is slightly larger than most bucks for my area, although there was one on mine and my neighbors cam that was substantially bigger. No complaints here!K.jpg

My 10th season of sheep hunting, first solo hunt (with my dog). I forgot my range finder in the truck, stalked this ram for 7 days, getting within 400-500 yards a few times, but never a comfortable judgment on distance.

Day 8 it all came together though at a comfortable 300-325 yards, my first and only ram. .

Last year deer hunt was pretty epic for me.

After lunch the wind picked up and the rain started. At 1pm it was 50km winds and hard rain (continuing until dark from the forcast)

Everyone decided to not go to their stands beside me. They laughed and said go ahead. My good buddy said he will go out at 3:30pm and sit in the truck until I come out.

4pm I'm getting tired of the rain hitting me in the face so I turn away from the wind and hunker as it's coming down sideways.

Then I hear a crash about 100 yards away, Then a doe comes bounding out into the meadow I'm covering with two small 8 point bucks on her tail.

Then are grunting and chasing her then I hear another crash and a giant buck comes out of same direction trying to cut the doe off.

I just shouldered the gun, Big buck stops at 75 yards and I touched one off, Felt perfect.

Watched him mule kick, Hunch up and run about 30 yards back into the bush and heard a big crash.

Watched the 2 small bucks chase that doe right past me for another 2minutes until the one buck stops her and breeds her right in front of me. I'm filming all of his while watching to make sure I don't see the buck I shot get up.

After he breds her and jumps off, They stand for about 20 seconds then they are looking back at the bush again. ANOTHER buck comes flying out of the bush and starts to chase her.

3 bucks plus the big one I shot all within 5minutes. My biggest frame buck, I have video of him the season before with my buddy not 75 yards away in the tree stand and can't get a shot. He grew tine length and main beam length by the looks of it.20231106_165357.jpgVideoCapture_20231114-181151.jpg

since this is a thread to show and brag in, here is my story. ill keep it short. its hard to pack all of my excitement in one post

this hunt was 2022 and in 13 days we are going back for a 12 day hunt same lake but my daughter has a goat tag this time

Living in NS wishing i could be in the mountains, after a few years of that i finally made it happen and move to BC with my family. I had a good friend from Alberta that always came on fishing trips with me, he ended up moving so I had no one to go on my first BC hunting trip with me. after a month of thinking I figured id bring my daughter, she always like adventuring with me and she was excited about the idea. she was 11 at the time.

so we get all packed up and ready for the trip a 11 day fly in hunt in Mt Edziza park. this was my first BC hunt, first time camping that long, my first fly in hunt, my first goat hunt, and by the end of it it was my first big game animal I ever shot, also i was using the first rifle I ever bought. lot of firsts

we saw lots of goats but couldn't connect with them as they were to high to retrieve them if shot. on day 6 i missed a goat by way farther than i should have so i realized i had banged my scope on something. we hiked back to base camp at the lake so i could remove my scope and mount so i can use my iron sights.

back up on the mountain, iron sighted rifle i hand, we see a Billy crossing the valley not to far from us. we duck behind the rock ledge and run up on him. i get about 40m away and shoot, his legs locked up and he started rolling. it was a sight to see, we couldn't have been more excited.

we connected with a goat on day 10, we flew out less then 24 hour later. 8" billy

i used a sporterized iron sighted Lee Enfield.

Best hunts? I haven’t been on my best hunt yet, I’m only halfway. But I suspect it’ll be doing what I did growing up, hunting creeks with my kids. I’ll let you know in Sept.

But I’ve been on a good few special ones, those I shared with others, particularly when it was their first of something. That could be as simple as their first mountain hunt, first African hunt, first time seeing and hunting the ocean, first time close to a grizzly bear… quite simply just being with people seeing and doing something for the first time.

More than anything it’s about sharing an experience, the hunt is just the vehicle but it is the way we define the experience.

I have been on some pretty cools hunts but honestly the one that sticks in my head as my best hunt was when I took my youngest daughter on her very first hunt . She was 12 years old, carrying a single shot break open 410 and the target beast was ruffed grouse. I remember the great day we had walking in the woods and how scarred she was to take the shot. We had a awesome time together. She is an adult now and still remembers that day. She surprised me when she got her PAL a couple of weeks ago. I am so proud :)

One of my good hunt weeks was a fly in visit to Winnipeg and a truck ride to Brandon MB where I caught up with a friend who had been transferred there for work.

We hunted on his private property where for the first time ever I walked and stalked a decent sized buck at approx 10:30 AM.

One of my best weeks was flying to Thunder Bay and travelling in a rented car to Gameland ON north of Rainy River to meet the same friend.

We both filled our tags the second day, him with a nice tasty Doe and myself with a beefy boy 10 pointer.

We spent the rest of the week playing cards, going on trail rides, visiting the Legion playing darts and trips to the USA for cheap beer and wing nights over an unmanned border crossing.

Sometimes hunting is about more than bringing home an animal.

We met every second year somewhere to hunt deer.

RIP Joseph, lifelong friend, taken early at 59 yrs old May 2024.

That took 4 years in the making. 8 weeks of holiday time spread over those years. Tons of time learning and obsessing about all there is to sheep hunting. A few blown stalks and it finally came together. That was a big deal for me.
Is that the same one in your display picture? Beautiful animal, great job. I would love to go out for sheep one day
