ATV anchor. Made with simple scrap steel, welded it up on the old Lincoln welder. I built this some time about 1987 or so?

It's easily the most indispensable piece of gear that I carry. Even in wet swamp muskeg areas, devoid of trees, I can still winch myself.
I've had friends along with me and somebody gets just buried in a swamp, and they say "We got no chance here..." Then I pull out the anchor and proceed to winch us out and they are blown away.

As you can see, over-all length is 33", 7" wide and the teeth are 8" long. I believe all the dimensions matter too. The length of it ensures that it doesn't flip, as the teeth sink in, that long shank of it pulls in hard on the ground and it holds solid.

As long as there is tussocks of swamp grass, it will pull into those and bite into them.

When I am done winching, I grab the handle and it pulls out easily.

I love this. Very cool!

It was part of a fancy tow bar system that got abused.
I salvaged it with this intent.
It should work as intended.

The built in swivel on the tandem trailer should work better.
This one has a tendency to roll over with the ball down causing drag issues.

Thanks for your suggestion that make perfect sense.

Thanks for the video , now I’m thinking how I can make something up with the swivel on my trailer , I’m thinking a swivel system so it could swivel about a third of the way would be enough
Here’s a pick of the hinges I put in the side for the lid, there old hinges off a deep freeze , to help with lifting

Upon research I googled motorcycle swivel hitch / coupler lots of good info came up and seen some are commercially available just not sure if that will work for your application or not.

That’s great tool, by pulling out by the handle do you mean the one by the teeth , just wondering if it ever gets buried in the muck and you can’t reach the handle to pull it out , maybe need a chunk of rope on it , or does that not happen yet

By the handle I mean that piece on top that is welded to the front middle then bent back onto the shank.
It provides an extra gusset and serves as the handle.

Due to the flat front piece on the bottom, no it has never gotten buried no matter how swampy the ground.

You can see that over time, the slightest bend has developed in the shank, just behind the handle, but that's been there a long time and has never been a problem.
