So, can anyone give me a step by step of the Ross refurb process? I suppose it's subjective to the rifle, but there must be some sort of standard thing that everyone does.

I'm not a gunsmith by any stretch, but I do enjoy projects like this. I've rebuilt many electric guitars over the years. I'm currently working on restoring my father's Mossberg 151k .22lr. It's coming together nicely.

Would it be recommended to start with a Lee Enfield to work up my skills before tackling a Ross?

Finally, what would you pay for a sportered Ross? I'm seeing numbers from $150-300. I don't know if I'd want to pay more than $200 all in for a sporter.

My favourite piece in my entire collection is a Ross rifle ..

I prefer it, even over all my K98k's .... hmmm.. maybe I need to start selling some of those off and look for more Ross rifles ...

Here are mine, both sporters at the moment but working on restoring the MkI*.

Here are a couple of old rifles that have been hanging around lately. Need to get them outside to take some decent pictures, these will have to do for now.

The top/right one is a single shot .308 heavy barrel target rifle. This apparently came out of Campbell's Gun Shop in Truro, NS. I am not sure if Elliot Campbell did the work on it himself but I know he was well respected in the field of Ross rifles. Unfortunately he passed away a few years ago.

The bottom/left one is a Bank of Montreal Home Guard rifle in full military configuration. You will not find a nicer "military" Ross.

Wow, that's BMO home guard rifle is beautiful!

I think I've decided to wait for a nice milspec Ross and simply buy it. They're far too intricate a rifle for me to consider fiddling with. A Lee Enfield is quite a bit simpler to work with in terms of restoration. If anyone has a Long Branch No. 4 Mk. I* sporter with Canadian proofs, I'd be interested.

This is my Ross Mk IIIb. British contract rifle with the rare "triangle" sight. I have tried to track down the date of manufacture but to no avail. Apparently most of these rifles were lost in the Atlantic by a German u-boat, and very few made it to England. The guy I got it from said he got it from a guy who brought it back from Lahr.
It is a great rifle to shoot, more accurate than any of my Enfields with iron sights.
