Show off your 300 AAC rifles!

Well its a nice niche round -- but your looking at a different color of sky if you think a .300BK has the same terminal affect of a 762NATO round.

Admittedly I am dumbfounded by the Canadian interest in this cartridge, me I like it cause I can run suppressed subsonics. I can see Suputin's interest as he has been into this sort of stuff way before Robert Silvers.
Other than the price of ammo, its quickly eclipsing my Suppressed 11.5" gun as a go to gun.

I don't think it equal to 762NATO. I think it out performs 7.62x39. I also think it an all round great choice for a combat effective round. Great from 5m all the way out to 450m. It's also an extremely versatile round with a wide variety of uses. I really like the fact that I get my same rifle, same kit and all the ergo benefits of an AR style platform with more stopping power than an AK.

Just out of curiosity, why do you say it's a niche round?

I'm always interested in other peoples opinions. Thanks for the insight.

I view it as a 300m round in supersonic flavor. The reason that I consider it a niche round, is that it makes a great MP-5SD replacement - the round punches soft body armor, and you can engage subsonic on targets to around 150m (200m in a pinch), then if you get in a protracted fight you can go supersonic and push it to 300m (I'm basing this off a 9" suppressed gun and bullet drop in an EOTech or Aimpoint.) Past that and you have no aiming references in the optic, as the drop has made it outside of the aim off realm.

Most effective supersonic ammo is the Barnes 110gr TTSX, and for subsonic there is a nice 185gr TTSX designed for subsonic expansion (handloading is a ##### as the bullet is longer than the 220gr ammo). Neither is cheap either.

When you look at an AK armed opponent - they have a 300m relative effective range. I would prefer to shoot folks like that with some stand off, an 5.56mm gun will give you a few hundred meters more, basing this off a 14.5" gun, I know its not apples to apples, but a 14.5" BlackOut would not give you much more range, the cartridge as Suputin correctly mentioned above offers little in terms of velocity gains past the 9" point, as it's at full powder burn.
