Show off your .45 caliber Rifles.

My Browning 1885 BPCR 45-70 with an MVA 6X scope.
Very accurate with any cast boolit from 330 gr. to 600 and Black Powder.
It has never fired a smokeless cartridge.

My new 454 casull and its bigger brother; an H&R 500 S&W.

I may be addicted to magnum pistol caliber carbines.

I have a 458 wm interarms mark X and a baikal sxs in 45/70. I can't post pix but they've been posted before by a friendly and helpful cgn member. Hoping to use one on another black bear this August.
400 gr woodlieghs protected point at 2500 fps mv for stand hunting and stalking clear cut edges. 405 gr silver cast flat nose at 1550/1600 fps for baiting and stalking berry patches

Any one use 400 gr woodliegh PP on game in any 458?

Thanks! Definitely the nicest stick I own. I would like to find its twin in 375 H&H

My good friend has its twin in .375 H&H. Absolutely stunning wood, and he got it for a really good deal at the Easter gun show a few years back. Most CZs have very plain wood, yours and my friends definitely are the exception. He has never sold a gun so your are out of luck there. Going to be real hard to find another one with wood like that.

You're probably right, but if I never do find one I'll just buy a plane jane base model and re-stock it. I would love to have a set of three in 458 Lott, 375 H&H, and 300 H&H

Back on topic to .45 caliber, that 458wm loves 350gr speer mag tips at about 2400fps and the 1895CB shoots best with 450gr cast at about 1350fps. Lots of fun shooting these rifles for as long as your shoulder can take it!

I haven't used the 400gr woodliegh(sorry), but I have used the 400gr speer out of my 458wm and it is pretty explosive at about 2000fps, which isn't even that fast in the win mag. I later found out they have a pretty thin jacket as they were designed for 45-70 speeds. I switched to the 350gr speers and they hold up much better at win mag speeds.

I've heard good reviews about the Speer 350 mag tip. I've been looking for 350 gr RN hornadys but couldn't find any so I ordered a few boxes of the woodlieghs. Amazing accuracy with the 400 gr. The 500 gr RN printed 4" lower at 25 yards so I stopped using them. Don't need them until I go to Africa anyway.
They do look good loaded though
I'd like to get a safe load for the 300 gr hollow point at around 1800 fps in my wm for deer

Post #55+ in the big bore 375 and up thread has pics of my 458 and 45/70. And a lot of nice 458 cal guns

Used the 454 casull for the first time today; great shooting with 300 grain HSM factory ammo.

Didnt even hit paper when sighted in with 300 HSM and shooting 300 grain Hornady; user error maybe.

Rossi's are well known for having crappy sights that are too short on the front & the rears ain't all that good either. Get a 4'x4' piece of cardboard and mark a 1" dot in the center, then set it up at 25 yds. then place a shot on 'er. Chances are, the shot will be high.

Bring a brass drift & light hammer for adjusting yer windage. Happy tinkering.:)
