They always say buy another foot or two if you can. Everyone who has a boat wishing they got one a big bigger. Even our Brant punts could be bigger. I've hunted out of bankes and lots of friends have TDBs 17'ers and they weight a lot more but are definitely more sea worthy.
We flooded our boat one day this Brant season. Waves picked it up as we were loading on the trailer. Lifted the trailer up too and smashed it down one wheel off the ramp. Finally got it re positioned and by then had taken 5-6 waves over the stern. Good bilge pump though and battery. Thank god for the electric winch.
Then a couple days latter our buddies tried to launch in some nastier stuff. They would of been okay but the engine cut off just as they were launching. They took water over and beached it. We helped them bail it out and winched it up the beach and back onto the trailer. They ended up getting their birds that day too after going home and coming back a little drier.
I've been in some hairy stuff in 15' low profile punts. But hate the deep deep water that's off the coast. Always been able to see land hahaha
