Hello folks,

Currently in the process of shopping around for a hard pistol case that I can load up with all the goodies (mags, holster, cleaning kit, etc.). Probably looking at a Pelican 1500 at the moment, but still evaluating.

Thought I'd throw up a thread for us to show off our well-organized hard cases and discuss pros/cons of different setups. Internet points to whoever has the most intricate foam cutouts for each individual item.

I don't have a pic of mine, but i use a mastercraft maximum XL case(similar to a pelican). The way its configured i can fit 7 pistols although i don't have that many. Got it on sale for $99

If you want to get into competition like IPSC or IDPA, it's more common for people to have their guns in one case by themselves, and the other stuff in a different bag. Just throwing it out there for you to think about in case that's something in the back of your mind.

My plan is to have a range bag set up for most of my handguns and paraphernalia. But for a couple of my more-frequently used handguns and long guns I want to have a single "grab and go" case set up with everything I'd need for specifically for that firearm.

Still in the planning stages of how those cases will be set up though, which is why I'm curious to see what other people have done.

I've just got a Pelican 1500 case, and am struggling with the layout. I changed my mind a couple of times, and screwed up a few times, too. Now the foam is torn to 100 pieces, and I need to buy a replacement foam block.

The price of replacement foam on Amazon.ca is $61. Hopefully I can find a source that is cheaper.

I use a Princess Auto 16” hard case to transport my pistols to the range. It fits my two with room for one more and mags. The holster goes in a soft sided range bag with gloves, ear pros, glasses etc.

Nanuk makes some nice hard cases.. I just ordered a nanuk 935 6—up off of Amazon from hardcases.ca for 270 and change all in

Heard a lot of really good things about these. Canadian-made too. I've got some brand loyalty to Pelican, but I've been tempted to try a Nanuk.

Princess Auto sells some nice Power Fist cases that are good for pistols and lockable.

They're similar to Pelican cases, but the relief valve is manual (not automatic.) I don't care about that since I don't fly.

Desert Seagull has started a few threads on them.

I've bought two of the 22" versions and four of the 16.5" versions (for some reason they don't show up on the website.)

The sale prices are $49.99 for the 22" case, and $29.99 for the 16.5" case.

I bought a Pelican 1520 case. I think its near perfect. It has two layers of foam, That can easily accept 4 pistols per layer. The nice thing about it is, that even though you can customize the pick and pluck foam, its actually not necessary. I bought a second set of foam inserts, thinking I would have to, but there is enough compression in the foam, to just close the lid on all the pistols sitting on top of the foam. It keeps everything intact, without movement too. No regrets on the case. Durable and functional.

I have the PA cases in various sizes with the foam plucked for guns to go in standing up rather than laying on their sides. Everything else (ammo, mags, ear and eye protection, paperwork etc etc goes in my range bag.)

In an earlier post I mentioned that I was not quite willing to pay $60 for the Pelican 1500 replacement foam set. Since the main section that I need to replace is 3.5" thick, I ordered a 3.7" pick-n-pluck replacement foam on Amazon.ca at around $27. Scoring is 15mm instead of 10mm, making it quite difficult to plan things, so this is what I have now.

I'm trying to make this a modular setup:
3 pistols + 4 or 6 boxes of ammo + mag loader, as shown below, or
4 pistols + mag loader (by swapping the right hand side of foam).

So far so good using this set up.
