Geoff on John P we have to many similiar tastes in guns! Geoff that is the nicest Whelan I have seen! And John P ,I am glad there are fella's who know when a good friend needs a helping hand, and you oblidge with the most beautiful 300 I have seen in recent years! I have a friend with a Pre-64 that started life as a 300 H&H and was rechambered by Roy Weatherby to 300WM! It is one of the best long range shooters I have tryed! Keep up with these nice photos, Dale Z!
 
I don't consider myself a winchester guy by any stretch of the imagination, but if i found that rifle in the cabinet, I am sure I would be shopping for a tweed jacket and a good pipe in no time. Very classy.

I picked up that particular model 70 years ago, upstairs in the used gun rack at Ernie Johnson's Hardware in Naniamo. With that particular factory stock and mat finish on the top of the receiver, I've only seen one other just like it although it was in a different caliber. A Winchester collector at a gun show in the mid 70's at Kalispell Montana had the twin to mine.

Thought I'd update my thread with this photo. Think I posted this on Hunting section, but figured I show it again. Needless to say, I've really bonded with this rifle.
