Show us this rifle that kick to much...

Here it is try to imagine and look the size of those 3 500S&W 500 gr compare to other, the 2 on the left are 300 mag and 7mm, in the middle i did put 500-44-357. compare to 410 and 12 guage, you could shoot an elephant with that round ( if you except military , 22 lr and shotgun, all are my reloads ).... Cheers. JP.

Nice rifle, but the factory 500 TBBCs aren't loaded to anywhere near the .458's potential. I chronographed a few and got an average of 1970 fps from my 21" M-70. Load up some 500 gr Hornady DGXs ahead of 74.5 grs of H-335 and you'll see what I mean, these chronograph at 2100 even. Thus far the top performer has to be Ben's 480 gr WFNs ahead of 77 grs and seated out to crimp on the second grease groove. These produced an average of 2200 fps and gave me 1.25 MOA at 150 yards from a badly fouled bore. Not bad for a bullet that in hand is about a third of the counter price of it's jacketed counterpart.

Whose this Ben? Intrigued... :)

To caramel, it gets much, much worse than a .500 S&W carbine as far as recoil goes.

Shooting is a great activity but when it start to shake you, i lose a big part of the fun maybe that why i love the 308 family so much... JP.

Put a Kick-Eez recoil pad on the 500S&W and quit whining... :p

My heaviest recoiling rifle is my Rem 700 LSS shortened to 21" barrel chambered in 375RUM 260gr @ 3020fps, 300gr @ 2750fps & 350gr TSX @ 2520fps I reduced the load to 2450fps the top load had so much recoil that it slowed my second shot down...

Yeah it kicks a bit but I put a Kick-Eez recoil pad on it so recoil is very managable...

Bought 40 rounds 400 gr Winchester Platinium at Le Baron ( 130.00 ), then i order everything for reloading from Andrew at Higginsons powder, the shell holder is # 16 the same as the 7.62X54R, already had Little Gun for my 357 and 44 order 500 gr XTP and loaded with BR-2 primer after you got the brass it is not more expensive to load than a good 308 round and sharing is not whining... JP.

I've got the same 500 handi. Mine's wearing a bausch and lomb 1.5-4.5 scope, and it seems to be holding up quite well. I wouldn't really consider it to be a recoil monster, though - I have several rifles that scramble my brains much more than the 500S&W

I dont have a picture handy, but full horsepower loads in my Pro Hunter, and 20" Katadin barrel gets a little stupid when I squeeze the trigger! Lol!
I WONT be shooting those loads in that combo again!

The limbsaver butt stock compresses very significantly!
HOLY
My saftey glasses prevented the idiot ring!
I would rather have a standard stock for that combo! Lol!!!

One dollar a round is quite right Box of 50 XTP 500 gr is about 42.00 and the rest ist about the same as a 308... JP.

My buddy's .500 s&w handi wasnt bad to shoot, I enjoyed it. So long as you mount it properly... CST Grad C.Nixon, did you use a .300 win mag based rifle for the .458? Did it require any tweaking of the feed lips?

I couldn't figure out how to get 2 actions to work at the same time. If I had 4 times the cash I would have done a double.

If you want my advice you'll save your money and stick with a bolt gun. Much to my chagrin with ten days of exposure I didn't have much luck with the double. The ammo was loaded on the hot side, 580 gr Xs and 580 gr Woodleigh solids over 89 grs of 3031 for about 2150, so the action tended to stick a bit, and there was a knack to breaking it over your knee to get it to open. It had extractors but not ejectors, which is something I don't get either, but to the double enthusiast it seems to matter. By the time I reloaded the .500 I could fire 10 rounds of .375 from a bolt gun. When the PH offered to sell me that rifle for $40K, I told him I wouldn't swap him straight across for my Brno 602, unless he wanted to throw in some cash with it . . . I think I hurt his feelings.

It is a long action with a magnum boltface, (I do not know if it was directly a .300WM action, I placed my order for the specs as to what I wanted, and they provided the action/bolt) the feedlips can suffice (for now anyway, I hope to open them up at a shallower gradient in the future since these blunt nosed bullets and a steep angle dont want to get along together very much), and I'll have to beef up the mag spring cause the darn belts on these cartridges dont make life any easier :D

I guess i became less tuff in the recoil departement, the joy of growing older... I will concentrate myself trying getting super groups with my 6.5 and 308... Cheers. JP.

Like my dad he is 77 and has a 3rd degree shoulder seperation in his right shoulder from a skiing accident last Nov.

He had given up shooting because he could not handle even the slightest recoil.

I took him out into the mtns a month or so ago with my Robinson Arms XCR-L in 6.8SPC with 10 round pistol mags loaded 110gr Sierra Prohunters @ 2650fps.

His first shot at a bank 150 yards away was way off due to his fear of the recoil but his reaction was priceless he turned to me with amzement in his eyes and said "I can't believe it there was no recoil at all" he then proceeded to smack the kill zone of a rock that was angled away from us with the rest of the mag.

I now have my hunting partner back.
