It was a cool, frosty morning on November 2nd. After not being able to find my stand in the dark for almost 10 minutes I finally found where I hung it a couple days before. Climbed up and sat down for a morning sit. About an hour after daylight I caught movement to the far left, 3 does ran past and out of sight within 3 seconds. It was a calm morning with the slight breeze in my face. I wondered what had them spooked, and why they were running, was it the neighbor's dog, a coyote, or the best case scenario, a buck! I started intently at the hill where they came from and seen antlers coming over the hill. I quickly ranged where the does went and prepared. He didn't walk where the does did, he was further, but how much further? I guessed it was 40 yards and let the arrow fly, heard a pop, he took 2 bounds and disappeared into the thick brush. I had no idea where I hit, but was sure the shot was good with that sound, anyone who archery hunts knows what I'm talking about. While I was listening I ranged the spot at 41 yards so I knew it had to be good. Waited an hour until the shakes went away, climbed down and started on the trail. First blood was at 20 yards, and he was only laying 23 yards after that. Biggest buck to date, weighed close to 210 pounds dressed. Just for a size reference I'm 6'3.
Got in really, really close, could have been an easy harvest, but ultimately passed on this guy. He needs to grow a few more years. Took a few photos and videos and left before he even knew I was there.
