Just got this in the mail from a friend, (Thanks Lyle!), it's something a little different. A S&W Heritage Series Model 17, case color hardening done by Doug Turnbull. I wasn't sure about it at first but once I got it, I can only say it shows better in person than in pictures (especially off my phone, but that's what you get). A fairly rare gun, unfired and in the box. I used to think case color hardening was only for Colts, but this actually has won me over. And, the wife even said it was beautiful, so it must be!

Beautiful Colt collection Saddlehills. I got heavily into the Snake guns for a while, now I've been picking up some single action Frontier Scouts, New Frontier, and then some Police Positives and Official Police as well. Colt made some great firearms over the years, my appreciation just deepens as I find more to fill out the collection. You have a few there that I'd love to get myself. Well done. TC

Thanks TC!

You are certainly correct Colt made some excellent firearms.
A person could turn it into a lifelong obsession and never be complete.
Many more I would certainly like to acquire.

I'm guessing that 8" shoots lights out with the longer sight radius and I'm guessing having a bit more weight up front makes it that much nicer to shoot.

I really should try the 6.5 to compare. I love the attention to detail and the mechanical smoothness of the action and cylinder on both of them. The 6.5 was a gift from a friend and my first gun.
